The marriage is listed twice; once for Kankakee Co. and once for Iroquois, and came from Catholic Church records. Does anyone know or have a guess where the marriage took place? That is, which county or which church? I am most interested in the parents of Ezilda, so any suggestions or help will be most gratefully received. I suppose I could write to the Illinois Archives for the official copy!? Thanks, Beth Guertin >> Beth, I think I have a few answers for you. I found the marriage record in the St. Johns Catholic Church from L'Erable Illinois, which is in Iroquois County. St. Johns was originally a mission church of Maternity of the Blessed Virgin Church in Bourbonnais starting about 1853. First resident priest came in 1856, but by 1863-1864 St. Johns was for a time a mission church. It was during this time when Jean Baptiste Hubert and Marie Esilda Gravel were married by Father Langlois. Witnesses were Wenceslas Hubert and John Baptiste Simoneau. Dated 19 Jun 1864. Their First Child, Marie-Isilda Hubert was born 13 Feb 1865 and baptized the same day by Father Pernin, this baby died a day later and was buried 15 Jun 1864 at L'Erable. There are literally hundreds of entries with the Gravelle name from that Parish. A couple of them indicated to me that Marie Ezilda is related to Julienne Gravelle, who was married to Louis Toupin. I have a baptism record where Marie Ezilda is the Godparent of one of Julienne's children and also one where Julienne is a godparent to one of Marie Ezildas. Although this doesn't PROVE relationship, it sure made it worth looking into. Julienne Gravelle was the daughter of Georges Gravelle (b 1813) and Julienne Legris (b 1 Jan 1827, St. Vincent de Paul, Canada) who were married 2 Sept 1845 in Montebello, Canada. Georges died during the Civil War at the infamous Andersonville Prisoner Camp. Julienne also passed away 31 mar 1861 at Spring Creek Illinois. Their minor children were raised by her sister, Adeline Legris. After doing a little looking I found more on George and Julienne. Known children of this couple: 1. Julienne b 7 Jan 1846 Montebello married Louis Toupin/Loupin 2. Joseph Theophile b 4 Apr 1847 Montebello married Celina Carifet at L'Erable 1865 3. George b 19 Feb 1848 Montebello 4. Mose b 12 Aug 1852 Montebello 8. Mary b 1 Sep 1857 Illinois. 9. Anthenus J (Tenos) b 22 Apr 1859 Beaverville 10. Nesfor/Hauasipher b 22 Apr 1859 Beaverville I am related to the Legris family and may be able to help you more with the Legris clan if needed. Happy Hunting Dave King DJKBoysrus@aol.com
