    3. Hello all--- I recently received a copy of an 1856 newspaper story via the Ohio Historical Society in Columbus, Ohio. I am wondering if any of the other descendants of Jesse EDWARDS in the Iroquois County area have follow- up stories to this article. As you can see from the message, the necessary newspapers containing any further articles were not found in the OHS files. (See below for story). Jesse EDWARDS Sr. (born 1756) has many descendants living in the Watseka, Iroquois Co., area. I am hoping that someone has copies of the Scioto Co., Ohio follow-up stories in their family treasures, and that they would be willing to share. Jesse's children: Susannah b. 1779 married Samuel SWIM. Elizabeth b. 1781 married David OPPY. Descendants moved to Iroquois Co. at least by 1842 Nancy b. 1784 married John Skillman MOORE. She died 1855 in Iroquois Co. John died in 1843. Both buried in Belmont Cemetery on land donated by John S. MOORE. Jesse Jr. b. 1786 married Sarah PRATHER Samuel b. Samuel b. 1791 married Hannah CASEL. They were the parents of Jesse B. EDWARDS. Jesse B. EDWARDS was married first to Mary BROWN. Married second to Angeline SMITH. Jesse B. EDWARDS and family and older married children by first wife moved into Iroquois County before 1860. Jesse died in Macoupin Co, IL in 1869. I do not have the details of his death, the exact date or his burial location. If someone has this info, would they please share it with me? ================================================================ The Weekly Portsmouth Tribune Vol. 10 Portsmouth, Ohio Wednesday, November 12, 1856 Number ...8 (probably 28?) Death of a Revolutionary Soldier - Jesse Edwards, who has resided in Brushcreek township for the past twenty years, died at his home on Sunday morning last, at the advanced age of one hundred and three years. Mr. Edwards was a soldier during the Revolutionary struggle, and shared largely in its hardships. Through the assistance of his neighbors, we expect to collect a brief synopsis of the leading features of his life and services for future publication in our columns. ================================================================ My lookup volunteer says: I did search the volumes following this one for the follow up article. However, the "book" that this volume was bound in ended shortly after this date. If there is an index, and you can find the date/call number, etc. for another issue of this paper, let me know. The next time I'm there (six months?) :) I'll be happy to check it out for you. Without anything else to go on, though, its a little like a needle in a haystack. ---------------- Jesse EDWARDS lived in Adams County OHIO and Bourbon Co (now Mason Co., KY before moving into Ohio in the late 1790s. Thanks much. ANy info on these families would be appreciated. Joanne in California at erictem@earthlink.net
