Here we go again. Help, these Wheelers are driving me nuts. Can anyone connect to this branch and if not can you tell me how to trace Arthur and his father George into York England? The Society lists a book called, "Ancestor Book IV." Can anyone tell me what is in this book -- there's no description. Also, can anyone do a look up in the 1870 census for Fred, Fredric or Frederick Doss for me? He would have been about 40 years old. In 1880 he was in Essex Township, Kankakee Co., IL. I know he married Mary Maskrod in 1874, and that he immigrated in about 1855. Thanks in advance for your help. Charlotte

And, boy, is it great! I just uploaded and it only took a few minutes. You have the option to include "more about" notes or not, you can include your sources or not, you can "clean" the info on your living folks---many options available. First, you need to set up an account, so you can upload your file, and later, to edit it (which I just did, also). Then, send it up! So easy and so fast. It took HOURS to send it to the Family Tree Maker site. Just minutes at RootsWeb, and it's much more complete. Also, you can add "post-ems" to anyone's data, and you can be notified when someone adds a post-em to yours, so that you can connect. This is brand new, just got started yesterday, I think. There may be a few bugs yet, but there's a message board where the fellow taking care of the GEDs is posting responses to the suggestions. And he is fast. Here's the URL: http://worldconnect.genealogy.rootsweb.com/ ~~~~~~~~~ Even if you don't upload your info, it is a nice search site. As more gedcoms are submitted, there will be more data to search. oops!! I'm sorry that my question wasn't as clear as it could have been. I know that JW Troughton married Ida Tederstrom. She married again in 1898 so I was wondering if JW Troughton died or if they were divorced. Is there an easy way to find this out without knowing the exact date? Thanks, Kim mailto:christk@maplewoods.cc.mo.us >>> "Kim Christensen" <ChristK@maplewoods.cc.mo.us> 10/11 10:49 AM >>> I am looking for information on JW Troughton. I know that in 1893 he was 26 years old, and he was a carpenter in Paxton (Ford Cty), Illinois. His father is John Troughton and his mother's maiden name is possibly Jane Conn. (The name is difficult to read from the marriage register.) Any information about the Troughtons or Conns in Ford County would be appreciated. In looking through records in Paxton, IL in a newspaper I found a short obituary for a Mrs. JW Troughton who died in Kankakee, IL. This could be his mother. Hi, I am new to this list and am looking for family. I am a descendant of George Bishop who was born in 1823 in Pickaway County, Ohio then moved with his parents and lived most of his childhood and early adult life in Lafayette, Indiana, where he enlisted in Company C. Vol. Inf. 5th Regiment of Indiana, in the Mexican War. He also married someone who is unknown to me. 1859 is when George is married to his second wife, Mary Cady and moved to Iroquois County, Illinois. It is here when he enlisted in the Civil War in August, 1862, in Company D, Vol. Inf. 113th Regt. Does anyone know anything about this family? George and Mary had my ancestor Nora Ida Bishop in Iroquois County, Illinois in 1862? Any direction or help with this family would be appreciated. Happy hunting, Maureen Brook

Hi! What an interesting web site! Can you imagine, receiving a postcard from the KKK State Hospital! There is a link to the old state hospital in Indianapolis, now partially demolished. According to info on the (Indiana) Central State Hospital web page, the Indiana archives has files of commitment records, etc. and a person can contact the Archives and order a photocopy of the patient's 'complete record'. This seems incredible. (See web page re info on patient files below.) http://www.state.in.us/icpr/webfile/csh_aiin/csh_data.html Illinois State Archives may also offer this service? This was passed to me and I thought others might be interested. Lee, consider a link? http://members.dencity.com/asylums/index.html It concerns itself with state hospitals that were open in the later part of the 19th century. It evens has a category for some of the hospitals. Scroll down to Illinois and there is a blurb about the K3 hospital with real dates. Cheryl Wixon Gocken

The Illinois Eastern Hospital for the Insane is now called Samuel H. Shapiro Developmental Center. It's located where it has been since about 1890, in Kankakee. Its name was changed to Kankakee State Hospital in 1910, to Kankakee Developmental Center in 1975, and finally to Samuel H. Shapiro Developmental Center in 1977. As for how to get records, I've been told by officials there that it's difficult for privacy reasons. You might be told it takes a court order to get records. Here's some good advice once sent to me by one of our members: Go to the Circuit Clerks office in the town where your relative lived. Request court records that put the person in the insane hospital. They are filed just like Wills. You will find a lot of testimony from family & neighbors, most likely along with data on the person themselves. Birth, marriage and country of origin (if they weren't born here) and their parents. This is what I found on mine. If the person died there you will find out the disposition of body. Our phone book gives a Shapiro address as 100 East Jeffery, Kankakee, IL 60901. Phone numbers listed are 815-939-8011 and 815-939-8221. I hope this helps! ----- Original Message ----- From: Dave Pro <davepro88@yahoo.com> To: <ILFORD-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, October 06, 1999 12:45 PM Subject: [ILFORD-L] Illinois Eastern Hospital > I am looking to get records from the Illinois Eastern > Hospital for my GGG Grandmother who was admitted in > the 1890's.
