Hello list, Does anyone have any idea which churches the following ministers would have been associated with? Reverend BEST? (first initials could be M. O) unable to read his writing in 1874 in Paxton and Reverend J. M. Smith March 1877 in Paxton. I have 2 ancestors who were married by these ministers, but the marriage license doesn't list any church affiliation, it just says they were married in the parsonage. The brides were sisters, but I have no idea if they were of the same religion. Thank you, Ronette from SD researching surnames: MORSE, (VT MI WI IL MN SD MT CA) HANKS, (VT IL WI SD MT MN) COLLINS, BURRELL, CARPENTER (SD, WY) I have extensive information on Heywoods, Shaws, and Blachfords, and am always willing to share.

It is located along side Interstate 57 and Route 17(Court Street) The have been there since the late 1880's(I think) Before that, St. Rose (near Mound Grove) and Maternity BVM Cemeteries (in Bourbonnais) were used. The main office for all the Catholic Cemeteries is at Mount Calvary. Call there if you want to find anything relating to any of the Catholic Cemeteries and talk to Millie Williams. Tell her Dave King sent you. :) Happy Hunting. Dave King
Just thought I would add in a site for anyone who may be searching in South Dakota as well as in these states. You can look up SD birth records that are 100 years old or over on the Internet. Here is a link to the site. Hope this helps someone. Click here: Birth Record Search Ronette from SD researching surnames: MORSE, (VT MI WI IL MN SD MT CA) HANKS, (VT IL WI SD MT MN) COLLINS, BURRELL, CARPENTER (SD, WY) I have extensive information on Heywoods, Shaws, and Blachfords, and am always willing to share.
I am in need of help in locating a marriage record for my ggfather Jacob Henry FRANCE. He married Mary Elizabeth PHILLIPS of Paxton, IL around 1886. His sister Amanda FRANCE was married to Morris BOCKOVEN in Elliott, IL. Mary Elizabeth's family farmed outside of Paxton. I have checked the online database but nothing is there. The minister may not have made the return or possibly it was a church record only. The PHILLIPS family were Presbyterians. They arrived in Ford Co. around 1867 and Mary Elizabeth was born there in 1868. I am also looking for possible cemetery records for the death of John FRANCE in 1884. Thank you for your help. Hi list In the 1910 census, I found one of my relatives, Richard HOWSE, living in the Kankakee State Hospital (Institute for the Insane). According to his gravestone, he died some time in 1910. What would be the best way to get his exact date of death? Once I have that, what is the best way to find an obituary for him? Is there any way I can get more medical information on him? It seems that he is the third member of this family to die in a mental institution which certainly is a cause for some concern. Thanks June in Texas USA - ------------------------------------------------------- GJL@PDQ.NET
Ok, I have a question along that line too. Is the Kankakee State Hospital the one that was in Anna? Or is that a different county completly? Jenn
Hi Kim, I'm sure you've noticed the shape of Ford County, so there ARE several other counties that bear looking at, most notably Iroquois, Livingston and McLean, but also Champaign and Vermilion. However, a birth in Paxton would be in Ford County for sure. HOWEVER, in that time frame virtually all births would have taken place at home unless there was a medical problem. I don't know when the old Ford County Hospital in Paxton was opened. But it seems that a hospital birth would have been recorded. There also is the "problem" of the doctors making house calls. If a doctor was asked to come and he was from another county, he might have recorded the birth in HIS home county. I have one of those in my family. The birth is recorded in Iroquois County as having taken place in Ford County. Since these people lived in Iroquois County, I can only guess that they were taken unawares while visiting relatives in Ford County. There is, of course, the problem of births not being recorded at all. Have you any idea of a church affiliation? If the family has a Norwegian or Swedish background, contact Pontoppidan Lutheran Church or First Lutheran Church in Paxton for baptismal record (I have no idea if someone can help you or not, but they might suggest someone with time to look at the records). There are many other churches with which I'm not familiar in terms of how long they have been in existence. There is also the problem of births being recorded in the county but NOT in the state. This happened with my dad and he didn't discover it until he was in his 50s and tried to get a passport. So just because IRAD has no record does NOT mean the birth wasn't recorded. It may well be recorded at the county courthouse in Paxton but the data never given to the state. Have you any other place names than Paxton -- even a township? I hope I've given you a few things to help you past the wall. Pretty much the same things apply to death records. Though not at the state, they may well be at the county. Hello I am new to this. My grandfather was adopted by a prominent Milford, Il. couple in the early 1900's. His adopted name was James Lindsley Paul and they have listed his birth to be 1909 in Chicago. His adoptive parents are Sylvanius Lindsley and Sara Ella (aka Ella May) Mayfield Paul. His birth name was Bennie Linscott...and he was adopted out of Chicago, Il. but was not born there according to the adoption papers. He was put in the Illinois children's home and aid society because his birth parents were not capable of taking care of him. I am looking for anyone that may know of the real story. The only information that I got from the Society was that he had older siblings that were not put up for adoption but were put in foster care. A sister that was three years his senior and a brother one year his senior. I think that at the time of his adoption he was about 3 and 1/2 yrs old and that occurred in 1912. Please feel free to e-mail me with any and all information. cpgoofy16@uswest.net, cpgoofy16@yahoo.com, cpgoofy16@hotmail.com any of these will work. Thank You c paul
