    3. Hi, Dave, welcome to the list. Your understanding is right; it's also for Iroquois and Kankakee. I'm sorry to say that I don't recognize the name GEORGE, but my great-grandparents were married in Onarga in 1880. (Clara SPAWR and Charles Ernest BARROWS) I have an ulterior motive in responding--your great-grandmother's autograph book. There's the chance (hope) that the book contains autographs of ancestors of members of this list. Would it be possible for you to look up our names or maybe even post a list of the autographs in the book? Figuring it doesn't hurt to ask, Laurel Busch Reno, Nevada lsbusch@accutek.com

    1. [ILFORD-L] George Family of Iroquois Co.
    2. David E. Tyler
    3. Hi folks, I am a new subscriber to this list. Am I correctly understanding that this list is also for Iroquois and Kankakee Counties, even though the address is ILFORD?? I am seeking descendants or individuals who might have knowledge of a GEORGE family who lived in the vicinity of Crescent City and Onarga, circa 1880's. I have my great-grandmother's autograph book which is 120 years old. It contains entries by two of her nieces, signed as follows: Allie GEORGE Crescent City, Ill. December 16, 1879 Orra M. GEORGE Crescent City, Ill. June 15, 1882 I believe Allie GEORGE is likely Alice Adelaide GEORGE, b. 7 Jan 1860, who married Benjamin M. WHITTEMORE on 18 Nov 1884 somewhere in Iroquois County. (Ref. Illinois Archives - Illinois Statewide Marriage Index) I am not familiar with the name Orra M. GEORGE, but she was likely a sister to Alice (Allie). Other siblings to these two girls who allegedly lived in Iroquois County were: 1. Willard Howard GEORGE, b. 21 Feb 1858 in DuPage County. 2. Lucy Edna GEORGE, b. 15 Mar 1883. The parents of these children were John Dalrimple GEORGE and Harriet Marion TYLER who were married in Will County, IL. John was a farmer who allegedly lived near Onarga. I would greatly appreciate hearing from anyone who might have even a small shred of information about these family members. Thank you. Dave Tyler Fort Worth, TX

    1. [ILFORD-L] United Methodist Church In Paxton, IL
    2. Hello List: Can anyone tell me about how long this church has been in Paxton? I have a 1874 marriage license, and my ancestors were married by a Methodist Episcopalian (forgive my spelling there) minister. This is the only Methodist Church I could find listed in the yellow pages for Paxton. I will write them and ask them about church records, if the church has been there for quite some time. Thank you, Ronette from SD Researching: Morse (VT, MI, IL MN MT CA) Hanks (VT, IL WI MN MT CA SD CA) I have extensive information on Blachfords, and Heywoods, and am always willing to share.

    1. [ILFORD-L] Walker Lewis family?
    2. Hello list, I am researching the Walker LEWIS family via my HANKS line, and would love to find someone else who is researching this particular Lewis line. I know that Walker LEWIS was born in 1857 and died in 1931 in South Dakota. He married Rose HANKS (b. 1858, died 1932 in SD) March 1, 1877 in Paxton, IL. Walker and Rose LEWIS homesteaded here in SD in the 1880's. At some point in time, Rose's nephew, Walter BOURNE (may have been spelled BOUREN) came to South Dakota to live with them. Walter was born in 1876 in Illinois to Alfred and Josephine HANKS BOURNE. I know Alfred was here as early as 1906, because he was married in SD in 1906. Family word of mouth has it that Alfred came to SD as a child and lived with his Walker and Rose Lewis. Nobody seems to know/remember why he came here. Nobody remembers his mother, Josephine, ever being in SD. I would love to connect with anyone who is researching the LEWIS, HANKS, or BOUREN, (BOURNE) line. I have a lot of information about their descendants, and am always willing to share. Thank you, Ronette from SD Researching: Morse (VT, MI, IL MN MT CA) Hanks (VT, IL WI MN MT CA SD CA) I have extensive information on Shaws, Blachfords, and Heywoods, and am always willing to share.

    1. [ILFORD-L] Charles Benoit and Marie Morin
    2. Marcel Benoit
    3. Charles Benoit and Marie Morin who were married in St Luc, Quebec July 6, 1818 had a fairly large family of about 12 children. About 1848 this family left for Illinois, and appears to have lived sometime in Iroquois County. The following are the children who may have immigrated to Illinois with the parents. 1) Marie Benoit, and her husband Cyrille Brouillet. 2) Eugenie Benoit, born 1822, married to Louis Hamel. 3) Josephte Benoit, born 1832, married to Jacques Menard. 4) Domitilde Benoit, born 1834, possibly “Mathilda” Benoit who married Charles Balthazar (Martin & Sophie Hébert). Oral tradition is that she was 14 when the family left Quebec, hence they reached Illinois in 1848. Mathilda became a widow 1886 in Wisconsin, remarried Joseph St Louis in1891 also Wisconsin. She is buried there. 5) Marie Dorothée Benoit, born1836, (nothing known ) 6) Joseph Moyse Benoit, born 1837, married Henriette Dion in 1861. This is the couple who a lot of folks are searching for the link back to Quebec. They had 3 children in L’Erable IL. 7) Flavie Benoit, born1839, married to a Dion as well, nothing else known. 8) Adelaide Benoit, born 1842, likely changed her name to “Ida” in Illinois. Possibly married to John Carl. If you can recognize any of these folks I would like to exchange information. Perhaps this can be of help to you as well as to me. 2. Can anyone tell me if there was a Methodist Episcopal Church in Paxton, IL in 1874-1876 that is still there today? Dale H. was kind enough to find out that Rev. Best served these churches, and he is the minister who married two of my brick wall ancestors, and I am hoping to find documentation of the their parents names. Thank you so much. Ronette from SD

    3. I am seeking information on burial location for a William Moat that I found on the master Cemetery list online for Kankakee County. There is a Wm. J. Moat listed as buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Manteno in 1894. This could be the one I am looking for. However there is a Mary Story Moat listed in St. Joseph's at Manteno who is the wife of William Moat Jr. who died in 1923 and is buried beside Mary in St. Joseph's cemetery and he is not listed in the index. My question is where did the data come from? Did someone actually see a grave for William Moat in Elmwood or was this information taken from cemetery records and the William listed is a misprint? I would like to find the actual location of the William Moat listed in Elmwood. Can someone tell me where I can find this information? Thank You. 3. Father Thomas Roy was listed as the officiating Priest at St. George Catholic Church for many funerals during the period 4/19/1875 to 9/11/1875. He did occasional funerals also in 1868 & 1879 so he must have been loaned from another parish- possibly Bourbonnais or Manteno. I don't think the marriage records from St. George were ever transcribed from French. You might want to write to this Church and have them check. 2. I would think some good starting points for these records would be either the archives of the Diocese of Joliet (where Bourbonbonnais is now) or the archives of the Archdiocese of Chicago (where Bourbonnais was under until about the 1950s) I don't have the address for the Joliet archives, but the address for the Chicago archives is 711 W Monroe St. Chicago IL 60661

    1. [ILFORD-L] Father Thomas Roy
    2. Hello Brenda and everyone: The first thing you should remember about Father Roy was that he was the first president of St. Viateur's College. He came around 1865 and along with Father Beaudoin took care of the needs in Bourbonnais. Father Beaudoin was pastor of Maternity and President of the college by 1883 when the Kankakee County Atlas was published, and Father Roy was already deceased. I think your search should take you to Maternity, and then maybe St. George and Manteno. I wonder if there is a chance there were marriages recorded at St Viateurs? This would be a difficult set of records to find. Happy Hunting. 3. Hi! I just received a photocopy from IRAD of the marriage register from 14 Jun 1872 to 17 Aug 1872 with a marriage which I HOPE is my gr-gr-grandparents' marriage. Sadly the record only states their names, the date and number of the license, the date married and the date returned. It does mention the name of the Priest who performed the ceremony, and I was hoping someone might have some reference which might tell me which Kankakee County Catholic Church they were married in. The priest's name was Thomas ROY "a Roman Catholic Priest". the date was 21 Jul 1872. I thought that you could get copies of the actual marriage certificates at IRAD, does IRAD have them, or only the Counties? Thank you! Brenda Hébert

    3. Hi Karen, Well -- I have, in the HOLVERSON family, Amy Lynn, Dawn Renee, Donald Gary, Elaine Kay, Elmer P. (first Holverson in records), Kimberly Gayle, and Martha Kay. They (except Elmer) are descendants of my great-uncle Henry Konrad Krumwiede and members of the Weisenbarn family. In the SANS family I have, Brady, Donald (first SANS in records) and Nick. They are members of my Hilgendorf/Krumwiede family, except Donald. In both cases, it is the spouse who is my relative and begins a line in those families related to me. For instance, Elmer P. Holverson's wife Laurene Kaufman is actually the relative of mine. I think they both are still alive and living in Buckley. And Donald Sans' wife Debra Ennen is my relative. They live in Paxton. -- Loretta Iroquois County ILGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~iliroquo/ Ford County ILGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilford/ Iroquois County Genealogical Society http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilicgs/
