Hello, This is a reminder that I have not put out in a while that the Kankakee, ILGenWeb site does have a Resources for Sale page. http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilkankak/k3sale.html If you have a service or item for sale, you can request it be posted here. This page is not an endorsement or ad or such thing, it is merely a listing. Often there are requests for a paid researcher; if you have services to offer, you can post them here. See http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilmacoup/m_pros.htm for an example of services offered. Lee Hollenbeck lee@keynet.net KVGS Web Editor www.kvgs.org/ Kankakee, ILGenWeb www.rootsweb.com/~ilkankak/

Dear List'ers: I was wondering if anyone has any experience with Immaculate Conception (Kankakee) records? Does St. Patrick's now have them? How would I gain access to the old church? I would like to take a photo of the window with my gg-grandfather's name in it. I will be in Kankakee at the end of next month & am trying to get my ducks in a row. Also, has anyone figured out where the Kankakee Co. naturalization/immigration records presently are? (NARA-Chicago??) Thanks for you help, Keith Bisaillon Mountain View, CA

If there was an epidemic, there would be something in a history book or somewhere saying that there was an epidemic. There is at least one history book on Kankakee County, that I've seen. There must be some records of their deaths. Debbie

They are housed at the Diocesan Chancery in Joliet. I contacted them via e-mail at DOJChan. Sr. Judith Davies, OSF will research the records and supply records of any you want if you supply names and approximate dates. They do not allow anyone else to research the records due to the fragile nature of them. As far as the church is concerned, I know that it still stands but I do not know how to gain access. Perhaps Sr. Davies can answer that question as well. Let me know what you learn for my ancestors went there too and I am interested in getting pictures although it is not absolutely necessary that I get inside. What do you know of Kankakee? Is the area around the church safe to traverse? Dennis Lietz

Hi Laurie, I have an Amedee Walter GOUDREAU "Meddie" Dumais born Jan. 10, 1883 and died December 27, 1952 in St.Anne, Kankakee, IL. He married, Dec. 12, 1912, Pearl Ruby ST.PIERRE who was born Mar. 5, 1889 and died Dec. 18, 1984. They had 3 children: Ivel Harold, Vonna Ivy and Loren Lowell. We learned from Pearl, Meddie's wife that he was adopted and that GOUDREAU was his birth name. I have no other information on that family. My intent was not to complicate things for you. Hope this is of some help. Jan Zewari Columbia, MD
