    1. [ILFORD-L] Fort Wayne in July
    2. Loretta Krumwiede Barlow
    3. Y'all come. In case you haven't heard, or in case you've forgotten about it... The Millennium Conference Program, Celebrating the Century, sponsored by The Allen County Public Library in Fort Wayne will take place July 19-22 at the Grand Wayne Convention Center. Discounted registration deadline is June 10. You can register after that, but it will cost you. Speakers include some names I've not seen before in Fort Wayne. I suspect tickets to the Illinois Genealogical Society luncheon on Wednesday will go fast. The speaker is Cyndi Howells. She also has sessions in the conference. PERSI will be demonstrated several times during the conference. Software demonstrations are planned, including at least two by the Family History Department, Genealogical Society of Utah. THE BEST PART: Moon-light Madness at ACPL The Historical Genealogy Department will be open to conference attendees on Wednesday, July 19 from 9 a.m. (early open, I beleive) to midnight!!!!!! Thursday will feature an early-open at 6 a.m. and will be open to attendees until midnight!!!! Friday and Saturday both feature an early-open at 6 a.m. for attendees. Visit http://www.acpl.lib.in.us/genealogy/genealogy.html, click on "Year 2000 -- where the dates for the conference are wrong, by the way -- they added an extra day at the front) and send e-mail (bottom of the page) to Curt Witcher to obtain a registration form. Or call 219-421-1225, ask for the genealogy department and say you want registration forms. I was hoping to find one online, but no luck at the ACPL site that I could see. Maybe somewhere else? A map of downtown Fort Wayne is available at http://www.genealogycenter.com/ Other Fort Wayne attractions can be seen at http://www.fwcvb.org/ including hotels information. The hotels with special rates for the conference are: Hilton at the Convention Center Holiday Inn and Suites (downtown) Fort Wayne Mariott -- shuttle to the conference Don Hall's Guest House shuttle to the conference One caveat. There is a parking garage attached to the convention center, but it pre-dates the convention center by a lot, and to my knowledge there is no entrance for high-profile vehicles. If you drive a high-profile vehicle and have no other vehicle available to you, I suggest you avoid staying at the Hilton UNLESS you will be allowed to park at the Holiday Inn downtown while you stay at the Hilton. If you do that, don't do the walk alone at night. If you stay north but want to attend Moon-light Madness, go back to the hotel on the shuttle, retrieve your vehicle and go back downtown to the library. The newspaper I work for will be covering the conference extensively, and one of our columnists is the banquet speaker. No comment. -- Loretta Iroquois County ILGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~iliroquo/ Ford County ILGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilford/ Iroquois County Genealogical Society http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilicgs/

    1. [ILFORD-L] Watseka Band
    2. Lisa Porter
    3. Debbie, Your note about a picture of a band reminded me that I have a similar picture. My grandfather (Ernest William MUELLER) played banjo in a Watseka band called "Doc's Aces" in the 1930's. The photo shows 6 handsome, dapper men posed near a tent. The drum has a "racey" picture of a bathing-suited beauty. I'd be happy to scan or copy the photo for anyone who's interested. (On a related note....I'm hoping to find photos of my father (Ernest Lee MUELLER/"Lee" dob 12-19-1934) as a child. I have only a few pictures of him as a child. If anyone on the list has old candids that include my dad or knew my dad (he attended Watseka schools and graduated in 1952/3), please contact me. I will gladly pay for copies.) 1. Re: [ILFORD-L] Records at old Court House, Watseka
    2. I'll let Cheryl answer some of your questions. I used to work there years ago, but forget what all they have now. Be sure to check out the current Iroq Co courthouse and annex. They have actual books of records and you can get photocopies (tho you will pay more). Probate is in the courthouse and birth, death, marriage and land records are in the annex. They are nice people there. If the ancestors made use of a Watseka funeral home, you might want to check there. Segur-Knapp is sitll in business. It's possible they have old records. It used to be Segur, then Knapps became a part of it. I always knew it as Segur-Knapp. If the ancestors are in the old plat/atlas books for Iroq Co, you may be able to locate the farm and drive by it or where it used to be. If they lived right in one of the towns in the county, you may be able to drive by there too. The genealogy library also has history books (centennial books) for some of the towns. Be sure to check those out too. You may find some info or some photos of your ancestors and you can get a feel for what life was like in their day. Read the old newspapers on microfilm at the genealogy library. Visit the cemeteries and take pics of the graves. We just had a family reunion and did all this stuff. Debbie

    1. [ILFORD-L] Ashkum Band
    2. I have 2 photos of the old Ashkum Band. I will be scanning to send to cousins. Anybody else have an ancestor who was a member? Not sure when it was in existence (1920s?). There is another photo in the Ashkum Centennial book, not sure if there is any info in the book. The Iroquois County genealogy library has a copy of this book. If anyone knows any history of this band, I would be interested, as my g grandfather was a member. Debbie

I don't have an address for them but you might try looking for the ELCA headquarters and asking there. Again I'm not sure but it may be in Chicago. Dennis

    1. [ILFORD-L] Records at old Court House, Watseka
    2. Joanne/erictem
    3. Hello --- What are the rules on using the genealogy records at the old Court House Museum in Watseka? Do all of those records 'belong' to the Iroquois County Gen Society? Or are they public records only housed there under the Gen Soc's protection? Can anyone go in there and research? What are the hours that the public can use those records---the same hours that the old court House Museum is open----or are there other sets of hours? I was in Watseka in 1996 and went into a 'vault' (as I remember it) and used the records housed there. I remember that there were old ledger books piled almost to the ceiling. Where could I get a list of the records that are there? A correspondent of mine with Iroquois County ancestors intends to visit Watseka soon and hopes to research there. Any good ideas or suggestions that I could pass along to her? Thanks to anyone who knows the rules!! Joanne in California

    2. Susan J. Morris
    3. Hi! I am trying to find out what Lutheran church in Chicago a Pastor Lambrecht was with in 1892. I obtained a copy of a marriage license for an ancestor which states he was with the German United Evangelical Lutheran _________ Church, but there is no address. I can't read the entire name. The marriage license application is apparently unavailable, which usually contains pertinent information regarding the bride and groom. I wrote to the Cook County Clerk and they find no record of the marriage at all. I have also written to 3 Lutheran churches in Chicago, with no luck, and there are too many Lutheran Churches in Chicago to write to them all. Does anyone have any ideas of where I could check for further information? Is there a Lutheran organization somewhere that might keep a record of names of pastors, etc.? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Susan Morris

Will someone please try to find who might have bought the business of Wm Frith? Thanks! Bob Arndt Belleville, IL >> Bob, Have you checked with Shapiro Development center yet? They may have burial records of the old State Hospital Cemetery. I went out there(to the cemetery) and looked around a bit. The cemetery must have over 5000 people buried there. The first markers have only a number on them starting with #1. By the 1930's I saw names and dates and burial numbers. Hope this helps. Dave King

    1. [ILFORD-L] important - About the new virus I Love You
    2. Lee Hollenbeck
    3. I know this is off topic, but this is very important. This virus propagates similar to the Melissa virus through Microsoft Outlook, but to more people in the address book. You need to know about this virus even if you do not use Microsoft Outlook because you can receive the message from someone who does use Outlook and if you receive the e-mail and open the attachment, it damages /replaces files on your computer. Rootsweb lists will not send attachments so at least you do not have to worry about that, but be careful out there! This is so very not a hoax that the traffic is so high to both Mcafee and Norton antivirus sites that I can not download the fixes! see details below Lee Ann Hollenbeck, List administrator ========================================================= ILOVEYOU Risk of Infection? Low Medium High How Dangerous? Detected on? 5/4/2000 How Do I Detect, Prevent, and Fix It? If you receive an email with the subject line ILOVEYOU, do not open the attachment; delete the entire message from your system. In general, you should never open any email attachment without first scanning it with an antivirus program. A fix for this virus will be available soon. If your system gets infected, delete any infected files that you find. For ongoing protection, install an anti-virus program to prevent viruses from infecting your system. A good anti-virus program will scan all vulnerable parts of your system quietly in the background and detect, repair, and delete known viruses; it will even alert you to virus-like activity in case an unknown virus creeps on to your system. Try one of ZDNet Downloads' top-rated anti-virus programs, or check out our Anti-virus ABCs toolkit for specific recommendations. Next, update your anti-virus software at least once a month with the latest virus definitions (signatures), so that your anti-virus program can detect the newest viruses. ZDNet Downloads has the latest Norton AntiVirus definitions and McAfee VirusScan definitions. If your anti-virus program detects a virus on your system, repair or delete the file, following the program's directions. What Exactly Is It? ILOVEYOU (VBS.LoveLetter.A) is an VBScript worm, mIRC worm, and file infector. How Does It Spread? ILOVEYOU spreads through email. It arrives as an attachment to an email message from someone whose address book contains your email address. The subject line is "ILOVEYOU", and the attachment is titled "LOVE-LETTER-FOR-YOU.TXT.vbs." When you open (click on) the attachment, it automatically mails itself to every address in your Microsoft Outlook address book. What Does It Do? When executed, ILOVEYOU installs itself in your system and mails itself to all the addresses registered in your Microsoft Outlook address book. This can degrade your system performance and clog mail servers. The virus also purportedly infects files with the following extensions: vbs, vbe, js, jse, css, wsh, sct, hta, jpg, jpeg, mp3, and mp2.

    1. [ILFORD-L] Pine Hill Cemetery-LaBolle Cook Kelly
    2. Donald Durr
    3. Hello and apologies. I do not know who the nice person is who wrote regarding the cemetery. We had a lot of computer trouble so have been out of touch for a while. Hope everyone has a Happy Easter. Yes, I had visited the LaBolle and Cook graves at the Pine Hill cemetery in Loda in June of 1999. The whole thing was rather amazing. At the death of my ex-husband in April I realized how important it was to get what little family history we had-written down. Then on a trip to chicago and a planned trip to Amish Country in Arthur, I learned that Loda where my husband's familly farm had been located, was on the way. So we made a stop in Loda. No one seemed to know of the farm of Nellie LaBolle--who had died in the 1960's . We headed off for the cemetery--parked the car and lo and behold--there was this tall monument which we could see a few rows off with LaBolle. It turned out to be the resting place of immigrant ancester Francois LaBolle from France. The next day I got help in town and found other LaBolle and Cook graves in a different place. Then I learned through the censu in Chicago Regional National Archives that Francois was the father of my husbands grandfather (my childrens g.g. grandfather). As some of you may know I recently searched out a Augustine LaBolle in LaSalle and DeKalb Cty and have now proof that Francois came toghether on the ship from France in 1855 under the name LaBolle. This whole thing has been very exciting!! Aloha--Lois
