Theresa, Sorry to hear of your trouble finding ancestors that came over on a ship. I too am having trouble finding a ship my husbands family came over. Please note that not all ships passenger lists are listed on the internet. Everyday more and more data is being brought online. I have only been online for the last year and a half and I can see a tremedous growth of data even in that short period of time. Perhaps someday YOUR ship may be added. Fayette county Census is not online yet. We are looking into adding atleast the 1850 & 1880 census but this is a massive project. Anyone wanting to get the Fayette county, IL census via interlibrary loan or the Fayette County census on CD http://www.usgenweb.org/census/resources/cd.htm may transcribe and send them to the IL GenWeb census Project http://www.usgenweb.org/census/states/illinois/illinois.htm. This is a tremdous undertaking and would be beneficial to all. The census on microfilm is not under copywrite. Contact me if anyone is interested on donating there time to this project. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwcens/signup/signup.cgi Other links for Transcribers: http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgwcens/help/censusinventory.html http://www.usgenweb.org/census/info/comp.htm In the meantime Theresa, You know your family is from Fayette County, IL. It would be very much worth you time to find the Fayette County census whether you use a look up, borrow the census interlibrary loan etc. On the mid to late 1800 census it does have the state or county the person was born in. This will help you to locate the migration pattern you ancestors have taken and possibly lead you to the country. Best wishes in searching for your roots. Thank you Mona.
Penny, Thank you. Years ago, my cousin gave me a little info on a ship with some of the Kruse family. It was called "Virginia" from Bremen to NY. But I haven't seen it on the web yet. Don't even know if this family is mine. How would you go about getting the information to transcribe, and when that was done, how would you get it back to the GenWeb? I'm not too literate on the web, yet :o). I could possibly take a portion and try my hand at it. Is there a time limit on the transcribing? And do you have to have special software, etc.? Let me know. I live in Florida, and would that be a problem? I appreciate all the responses that I have received from my cry of help. They have been well received. Thank you all. Theresa
Pansy, Thank you. Greg is my cousin and Ted is my uncle. I have tried to get info from all of my family up there, but they have none. I don't think any of them, with exception of my Aunt Margie, are looking into the family. I sent them all sorts of forms to fill out, etc., hoping they would have something. But they didn't. Thank you. Theresa
John, Well, small world. Ted and Fenton are my uncles, and Betty is my aunt. My daddy's brothers and sisters. Betty and Ted still live in the vacinity. Fenton lives in Salem or close by I believe. They have other brothers and sisters that live in the surrounding area. My daddy (Walter) and his one brothers, Lyle, now live in Florida. My grandfather was Walter M. Rinkel, grandmother Jane Dixon Rinkel. My grandmother died and he moved to Florida several years before he died. My ggrandfather was Henry and ggmother was Henrietta. My gggrandfather and gggrandmother - Henry and Dorothea (Kohlberg). Thank you for responding. Theresa
Thank you Melinda. I would love to go there, but have not had a chance yet. We used to go to Farina every summer when I was little, but of course I wasn't into genealogy then. My grandparents lived there most of their lives. Maybe one day, I can get back up there. I now live in North Florida. I could probably find everything I need, if I could just get there. Thank you again. Theresa
But you have to realize, that what is on the web and what you have seen at the LDS is just the tip of the iceberg for ship's lists. Might I suggest you read "They Came in Ships" by John Coletta, which will explain to you how to locate ship's lists for all eras. Good luck... Jill PS You should be able to get the book from ancestry.com. It's short, very readable, and not too expensive. Well worth it. ----- Original Message ----- From: <JanieBAC@aol.com> To: <ILFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Friday, February 11, 2000 11:52 PM Subject: [ILFAYETT-L] Re: ILFAYETT-D Digest V00 #16 > Hi, > > I am totally at a loss. Theresa-- I do not know what your circumstances are, but I would highly recommend that you make a trip to Fayette County if possible. I spent a couple of days in a hotel there last summer. They have a wonderful little library there with a genealogy section which has a lot of resources. The people there have a terrific historical group (The Fayette County Genealogical and Historical Society) which has published a LOT of family history info. I found stuff there it would have taken me YEARS to look up otherwise. And the people are so warm and friendly. Melinda > Hi, > > I am totally at a loss. To Theresa I read your Email looking for the Rinkle, or Rinkel. The family that I knew by that name grew up in Farina in Fayette Co, Il. I went to school with Ted, who had a brother named Fenton, they also had a sister Betty. I think the sisters mane is correct. I don't remember the fathers name, because I've been gone from there 50 years. I do think Fenton still lives there. Maybe that will help. John T. Walker
Hi Sherry, That person was me. I was shocked to see Gerald's stone as I didn't know he had died. I probably hadn't seen him since he was married but we went to school together and I was friends with his sister, Virginia, and used to go home with her . I was a flower girl at their Grandfather Lilley's funeral. So I knew the family pretty well. I have been hoping to hear from his son. I think I have a snapshot of Gerald when he was in High School that he could have if he would like. I know I have a picture of Virginia. This doesn't say what the first one said, but you will have my name and e-mail address. Also. he is related to Jim Tipsword, through Jim's mother, Winnie Patterson Tipsword, and Jim is my cousin . Thanks for writing again. Sincerely, Gayle Tipsword Norris. E-mail < gltn80@webtv.net > gltn8 To do research on my ancestors is to show respect and veneration for them and myself.
Hi, I am totally at a loss. I have researched every immigration ship list that is on the web and ones I could find previously at the LDS Church. I find none of my ancestors. I know they had to come over on a ship, didn't they? So, why is it that I can't find them. And I have had no luck at all on any of the web sites. It's like they just "appeared" out of thin air. Is anyone else having this problem? Or am I doing something wrong? I know that my family lived in Fayette County, IL and most are buried at the old Keen's Chapel Cemetery. I know the Rinkel name is not a common name, so why am I having so much trouble? Will there be researchable census records on Fayette County, going back to the 1800's? Thanks for listening. I am really getting frustrated. Theresa
Dear Central Illinois researchers, I have 2 old pictures----one is of "Elizabeth Gilfillen", taken by Parsons of St. Louis, MO. The second picture is of "Emma Gilfillen, Papa Cousin" and taken by the same studio in St. Louis, MO. I am descended from Richard J. Hill of Fayette County, IL. Two of the Hill daughters married Craigs in Fayette County, and I feel that "Papa" is one of those Craigs---Albert Craig, or Leonard Craig. "Papa Craig's" cousins---Emma and Elizabeth Gilfillen. I would like to correspond with you if you have a Gilfillen family, which includes Elizabeth or Emma Gilfillen. Nola in KS.
Blackmore Hiram Blankenship was b. 1830 in Illinois. He was the son of Gilbert Blankenship (1790 0r 1792) and Elizabeth Hughes (1808). This was Gilbert third marriage. Cann't find Blackmore as one of Gilbert's sons. The other children of Gilbert was Payton, Hyram, Elizabeth, Charles, Martha, Elbert, John and Joseph. Also was told that Gilbert Blankenship Feb 5, 1856 D. 1941 son of Blackmore married Isabelle House or Davis or Hughes don't know which one is right. On my dads birth cert. it says Hughes b. in Mississippi. Any help finding out which one is right on the Blankenships would be greatly appreciated. Thank You Bill Blankenship
Will the G.H. that wrote to me concerning the gravestone picture of Gerald Patterson that's on my homepage please e-mail me again. I forgot to forward the message to Gerald's son and it got deleted. Hello It has been a while since I sent in my Metcalf family that I am researching... George Metcalf & Tabiatha Ayres, Metcalf married and had a son Jacob Metcalf born 6-20-1826 in Wayne Co., Ohio I don't know if they had other children and I don't know when George was born or his parents..Tabiatha's parents were given to me as John Ayres and Patsy Reavis.. I don't know Tabiatha's birth or dead..she did have a brother William Ayres and I've been told he came to IL maybe around the time Jacob did...not sure... Jacob at about age 12 moved to Indiana and later married Mary Watson in 1851. Jacob & Mary had John born about 1852, Pheobe born about 1856, Manerva born about 1858, James born about a1861, George born about 1863, Hannah or Anna born about 1868...all the children were born in Indiana and then Jacob, Mary and their children moved to IL...later Mary died about 1876 and Jacob marries Sarah Jackson and she died about 1891, Jacob marries a third time to Rachel Maggie Hall,Casey on 5-13-1896 in Vandalia, IL. Jacob died in 1910 in Vandalia, IL.. Any help on these families would be great.. Thank you.. Blondee

To add to the long list of those searching for John Camerons in various locations, may I add the John Cameron family first seen in Lebanon Co, PA in 1810? There are records in the Annville Evangelical Lutheran Church for the children born to John Cameron and his wife Sarah in the years between 1810 and 1820. Those children are: Joseph Cameron, born 14 August 1810, Daniel Cameron, born 22 June 1812, and Catherine Cameron born January, 1816. The name is spelled in various records between 1810 and 1870 as: Cameron, Camron, Cammeron. The Federal census for 1810 and 1820 shows Camerons in Annville Twp, Lebanon Co. PA (formerly part of Dauphin Co, PA) with the given names of John and Levi (there are two households headed by a Levi Cameron). 1810 Federal Census Annville Twp, Dauphin Co, PA Currently Part of Lebanon County Taken from the 1810 Dauphin Co U.S. Census Rolls Free White Males Free White Females All Name 10 16 26 45 +45 10 16 26 45 Levis Cameron 2 1 1 4 2 1 1 Levis Cameron 1 1 1 4 1 1 ohn Cameron 1 1 1 1 1 1 Joseph Cameron said that his parents were born in England in one census, and in Germany in another. Location of marriage unknown. The Camerons moved to Knox Co., Ohio (later Richland CO, Ohio) by January,1835 when Joseph's second son, John, was born. Joseph's brother, Daniel (b. 1812 PA), married Mary Grubaugh in Knox Co. Ohio in 1838. Joseph Cameron moved west along the National Road to the area of Howard's Point, Fayette CO, Illinois in 1839, according to the information he provided in 1879. His third son, Jeremiah was born there in 1840. Information from Death Certificate of Joseph Cameron White, male, age 95 years, 5 months, 21 days, widower Date of death: February 4, 1902, 8 P.M. I have connected 290 gravestone pictures onto my homepage. Thanks to PhotoPoint.com for providing the space. These are stones from my family research mostly in Fayette County. Families include Crotser, Hamilton, Mahon, Pryor, Doolen, Hopper, Smith and to many others to name. 21 cemeteries are represented. At this time, I am unable to provide an index, so you'll just have to cruise around. Homepage is at http://www.advancenet.net/~conure/index.htm Or if you want to go straight to the genealogy page it is at http://www.advancenet.net/~conure/geneindex.htm Then there is an explanation at the top of that page. Greetings: I am researching several family lines which are from Bond and Fayette Counties. I am descended from Alexander Freeman, born on January 6, 1805, somewhere in Virginia. He married Perlina Simmons (b. Sept. 5 1814) on Feb 16, 1832, and died August 30, 1859 in Bond County, Illinois. He married Perlina Simmons (b. Sept. 5 1814) on Feb 16, 1832. Perlina was the daughter of Charles Simmons. Following Alexander's death, Perlina remarried, to a man named James Rainey. Perlina died in Junction City, KS. My great-great grandfather was their son, Daniel Nelson Freeman, who married Margery Roberts, the daughter of Larkin Roberts and Margery Mayfield. I have more information on these families if anyone is interested. If anyone can help me at all, particularly in determining the parentage of Alexander Freeman, Perlina Simmons, and Margery Mayfield, I would be appreciative. It has recently been suggested to me by a member of the Bond County list that Alexander Freeman may have been the son of Mary Robertson Elam by her first husband Gideon Freeman. Mary's second husband was Daniel Grigg. There are a number of reasons why this theory is attractive, but of course it could be wrong. Any information that anyone might have on the Griggs/Freemans/ and Elams would be helpful indeed. Thank you. Jill
