Cheryl, There were many BURKETT in the Wayne Co, IL area where my grandmother Janie Mae STOGSDILL was born. Her ancestors LEATHERS, MCCORMACK/MCCORMICK, MELTON and MONTGAL/MONICAL came in to. There were some related by marriage to her family I believe. There were also some BURKETT in Macon Co, IL. James BROWN might be related to my Larkin BROWN. In the 1850 Fayette County census, I found James M. BROWN (b abt 1824, TN), wife Lucy (b abt 1826, TN), and their daughter Mary A (b abt 1849, IL) living next door to Larkin and Catherine (HELM) BROWN and their children. The census also indicates that Larkin BROWN was born in TN. I'm speculating that a group of families, including HELM, BROWN, DOOLIN/DOOLEN, EVANS, BURKETT (moved to Marion County) and LOVELESS migrated to IL about 1828-1829 from TN, based on the marriages of my HELM families with these lines, and I usually found them living fairly close together in the various census indices. Katie, Thank you again for your time. It was very kind of you to write. Just checked and that James BROWN who married Lucinda BECK was born much too early to have been Fern's son. I believe Fern BROWN's son was born in 1930s. One Hundred years later. He may have been an ancestor of Fern's husband. Does anyone on-line know the name of the widow Fern BROWN's husband? Does anyone know more on the James BROWN & Lucinda BECK families also? I am curious if you are related to Lucinda BECK BROWN? I show her as daughter of Edward BECK & Maryanna FREEMAN. Edward and Maryanna married 115 March 1830 Montgomery Co, IL. Katie, I think he was a James BROWN. I think he was my uncle Raymond Lee HIMES age. I didn't know who he married. We left Shafter Twp area when I was a Sophomore and moved to Maroa, IL, where my mother's ancestors came from. I graduated from Maroa High School. Do you know anything else on the widow Fern BROWN's husband and children? Do you remember James's father's name? Do you know if James and his father were related to Richard BROWN? The BECK were related cousins of sorts by marriage to my MCDONOUGH and BESS. My paternal 2nd great-grandmother Sarah (MCDONOUGH) BESS had a sister Martha MCDONOUGH b.abt 1832 Ohio d.after 1870 Montgomery, IL married 3 June 1852 Tuscarawas Co, OH Simon BECK b.abt 1790 d.14 Dec1876 Montgomery Co, IL buried Renshaw Cemetery. I visited John MCDONOUGH, (a descendant of the John MCDONOUGH who was a brother of my Sarah MCDONOUGH), west of Vandalia, IL a few years ago, while visiting home. http://members.truepath.com/beverly/index.html Beverly (HIMES) BARGER ----- Original Message ----- From: <Cal1205@aol.com> To: <grvtrain@twrol.com> Sent: Saturday, July 08, 2000 2:37 AM Subject: Re: [ILFAYETT-L] Larkin BROWN > This widow Fern Brown did she have a son by the name of James Brown, that > married Lucinda Beck daughter of Ed Beck of near Ramsey Ill in Fayette Co > Ill. Cheryl, Our middle daughter went to Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, OK in the 1980s. We loved the people there, when we visited her school. My 3rd great-grandmother Sabra Charlotte (ELAM) ELMORE's 2nd husband after great-grandfather Lawrence ELMORE died, was Richard E. BROWN. Sabra married Richard E. BROWN 21 March 1875 Fayette Co, IL. I don't know if she had any children by him. They could have a one or two children. I have wanted to find out though. Richard BROWN died just a couple of years after they married. Richard E. BROWN was born 1839 d. 15 Feb 1877 Fayette Co, IL all three are buried Bethleham/Old Brushy Point Cemetery. There was a widow named Fern BROWN that lived across the field a few miles from us who had older children and younger a son 4 or 5 years older than I. I remmeber grandfather saying the widow Fern BROWN's husband was related to us somehow. He never said how. Maybe thru Sabra's 2nd husband Richard BROWN? I'll ask dad if he knows. My dad Clarence Lloyd HIMES born 1915 west of Vandalia, IL age 84 has e-mail address woodworker36@juno.com Dad lives in Belen, NM now. He loves to get e-mail and answer questions about the Fayette Co, IL area and the people of the area. He is related to all the early surnames in the Bond, Montgomery, Fayette, Shelby and Christian Co, IL area. Sabra's 3rd husband Williamson BROWNING is buried Browning Cemetery. My grandparents Ernest William HIMES & Morna Evalene (BESS) and great-grandparents Henry BESS & Sarah Elizabeth (ELMORE) are buried in Browning Cemetery also. Great-grandma Rachel Lee (CHESHIRE) HIMESlived next to the cemetery and donated more land to it in early 1900s. My grandparents lived there later. I remember tiptoeing past the cemetery on the way down to the creek as a child. This was also in my database. Most, if not all of the Helm families that settled in Fayette County in the 1830s are my line, but I haven't been able to track them much past those married in the 1850s except for my direct line (William Helm - Uriah Helm - Wesley Sylvester Helm - Clarence Sylvester Helm - Lawrence Wesley Helm). The only Norris I have is Rebecca Norris. My information is that she was born either in Ohio or Pennsylvania about 1840. I have a Catherine Helm, daughter of Jacob Helm and Tabitha McDonald, who married Larkin Brown, probably of Fentress or Overton County TN. I have not been successful in identifying his parents. I show Larkin and Catherine's children as: 1 Larkin Brown b: Abt. 1808 TN . +Catherine Helm b: Abt. 1815 Tennessee 2 Harriet Brown b: Abt. 1835 Illinois ... +George W Reese 2 John C Brown b: Abt. 1838 Vandalia, Fayette Co., IL ... +Elizabeth Frances Johnson b: 03 Mar 1842 Fayette County IL d: 14 Sep 1917 Montgomery, AR 3 Rhoda Margaret Brown b: 26 Feb 1865 Vandalia, Fayette Co., IL d: 13 Dec 1950 Shawnee, Pottawatomi, OK .... +Schuyler Boscom Hoover b: Mar 1858 Vandalia, Fayette Co., IL d: 27 Mar 1938 Vandalia, Fayette Co., IL .. 4 Unnamed Hoover .. 4 Unnamed Hoover .. 4 Unnamed Hoover .. 4 Latharo Lathail Hoover b: 12 Dec 1885 Smith, KS .. 4 Lathaniel Lee Hoover b: 28 Jul 1888 Hot Springs, Garland, AR d: 01 Aug 1975 Shawnee, Pottawatomi, OK ...... +Gertrude Lester b: 03 Aug 1909 Hot Springs, Garland, AR .. 4 Charley Hoover b: 29 Sep 1890 Fayette County IL d: 1896 .. 4 Henry Hoover b: 06 Jan 1893 d: 1896 .. 4 Chloe Hoover b: 31 Dec 1895 Shabbana, DeKalb or Fayette Co., IL ...... +Donald Brown b: Bef. 1891 Shabbana, DeKalb or Fayette Co., IL .. 4 Sunshine Hoover b: 12 Oct 1901 Fayette County IL d: Mar 1902 Vandalia, Fayette Co., IL 2 Thomas W Brown b: Abt. 1840 Illinois 2 Tabitha (Tabba) Brown b: Abt. 1842 Illinois 2 Henry C Brown b: 16 Aug 1844 Williamson, IL 2 Mary E Brown b: Abt. 1847 Illinois 2 Amanda Brown b: Jan 1850 Illinois Most if not nearly all the Helm family that settled in Fayette County from TN are in my line. tim wrote: > Cheryl, > Your name is familiar. > Do you have any NORRIS related to CASEBEER, MOORE or HIMES? > Do you have any HELM relation to SHERMAN, BROWN or SHARP? > There were a number of HELM in Fayette Co, IL. > I do NOT have a direct line of NORRIS or HELM, but some are in my files. > My direct line of ancestry from me Beverly going back to earlier with names, > surnames, dates and localities is in the HIMES line link of our homepage. > http://members.truepath.com/beverly/index.html > Beverly (HIMES) BARGER in NM > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Cheryl Helm <chelm@netwalk.com> > To: <ILFAYETT-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Friday, July 07, 2000 10:00 AM > Subject: [ILFAYETT-L] Rebecca Norris > > > I am looking for parents, siblings and ancestors of Rebecca Norris who > > married Uriah Helm in Fayette County on 5 March 1854. Cheryl, Your name is familiar. Do you have any NORRIS related to CASEBEER, MOORE or HIMES? Do you have any HELM relation to SHERMAN, BROWN or SHARP? There were a number of HELM in Fayette Co, IL. I am looking for parents, siblings and ancestors of Rebecca Norris who married Uriah Helm in Fayette County on 5 March 1854. Uriah was the son of William Helm and Elizabeth Guffy/Guffey.
I posted a while back about my Radcliff great grandparents but I haven't heard from anyone. I thought I'd try again. This is pretty special to me because my mother never knew her grandparents and knows practically nothing about them. I'm trying to find out more about them but am not having any luck. I would appreciate any advice on locating more information. This is all I know about the family: John William Radcliff was born March 28, 1871 in Washington(Twnship?Co?)(IL?IN?). John (nickname Jack) died May 30, 1936 in Vandalia and I believe is buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Virdia Lydia Chandler(daughter of Wm. Chandler & Louisa Nichols of Fayette Co.) b. Aug. 7, 1878 m. John William Radcliff June 29, 1896 in Salem, MO (IL?) Virdia (nickname Birdie) died Nov. 17,1959 in St. Joseph Hospital, St. Charles, Missouri and is buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetery, Fayette Co. IL.. Their Children: Orie Arthur, b. May 13, 1897 d. March 1973 Romona, CA. m. Frances Mills, Decatur IL William Milo, b. Dec. 23, 1899 St. Elmo, IL, d. March 23, 1970 Ft. Myers, FL. m. Elsie Louisa Scribner, Decatur, IL Claude Edward, b. June 6, 1902, Marion, IL., d. July 29, 1991 St. Louis, MO. m. Beulah Jones, Vandalia, IL Ethel M., b. 1904 d. 1917. Roy Harold, b. Oct. 13, 1907, St. Elmo, d. Dec 3, 1975 Ft. Myers, FL m. Cora Mae Carson, Vandalia Louis Chandler, b. March 4, 1912, St. Elmo. d. Oct. 24, 1995 Macon, GA. m. Polly Keller Jones. Louis Chandler Radcliff was my grandfather. I realize that John William Radcliff supposedly was born Indiana but I've had no luck there. Virdia's father died the year she was born but her mother stayed & remarried in Fayette Co. I have the impression that even though Virdia & John Wm. married in Salem they both lived in the Vandalia/St. Elmo area. I hope someone will recognize this couple or their children. Sincerely, Gwen Brooks Atlanta, GA

My husband and I visited Spring Hill Cumberland Presbyterian Church and Cemetery in Loudon Township this past week-end. We took several gravestone pictures. I had duplicate copies of the photos made, and would be delighted to share them with anyone that would like the extra copy. Surnames that we took pictures of were; Julius, Bennett, Drees, Hopper, Cummins, Dial, and Tipsword. Most of them are Hoppers. If you are interested in any of these, send me the first name of the individual and I will see if I took a picture of that stone. All I ask is that you send a stamp or enough to cover postage along with your request if we find that I do have a picture for you. I can also check dates or names for you on the photos I took if you don't want the pic. There are several stones that have fairly recent dates since the cemetery was read for Fayette Facts. I will have these pictures up on the gravestone section of our homepage at http://www.advancenet.net/~conure/geneindex.htm But it's going to be awhile before I can get that all done. I hope someone can use these. sherry smith-stanford conure@advancenet.net
I am trying to locate the burial/death records for my grandfathers brother,Leslie Lloyd MOREY and his young daughter Florence. Leslie and Florence died in 1918 within hours of each other from the flu. My mother thought they died and were buried in Maroa, Macon, IL but there is no record of them there. Leslie was born in Fayette Co. and his family remained there, I am thinking maybe this is where he actually died and was buried in Fayette Co. Any help on this matter would be so appreciated. I am wondering if some one on the list might have access to obituaries from newspapers in the area. I am looking for the obituary of Matilda MOREY. She was the wife of Morris MOREY and she died in Fayette Co., IL, on 19 Dec 1896. Any information on her death/burial would be appreciated. Thank You Helen in Idaho
