    1. Re: [ILFAYETT-L] Pope Snow Lorton Frailey Sarver Beck
    2. To all who responded to my previous post: I just changed computers and don't have my genealogy software loaded on my new one. I don't have my notes handy either so I am going to give a basic outline of my Fayette Co. families. The VAUGHN and NODINE families came together from Rutherford Co., NC around 1855. I have the VAUGHNS back to ROBERT VAUGHN b. c1796, VA who married ABBY GILL b. c1800 SC. They had several children, most of whom migrated to Fayette Co., IL. The NODINES originated in France and were Hugenots. Others have done an extensive genealogy on this line. Nathan NODINE m. Floribell Madorah VAUGHN c. 1850 in NC their daughter Susan Jane NODINE married John FAIR in Fayette Co., NC John FAIR's parents were ALEXANDER FAIR b. c1836 TN and SUSAN CHATHAM b. c1836 IL Alex FAIR may have been orphaned and I have not been able to locate his parents. There are other CHATHAMs in Fayette County but I don't know for sure which ones are Susan's family. From what I remember about my research, the FRAILEYs, SARVERs, and BECKs were neighbors to my lines and some of the siblings from my grandparents married into these families. My SMITHS came from Indiana. The father was JOHN SMITH and the mother was MARTHA CARTER? Some of their children had unusual names like German, Dorcas and my great, great grandfather was ERISTADES SMITH who married ELIZA DIVELEY This is all from memory and I could have made some errors. I apologize for this info being so sketchy. If anyone thinks there might be connections between our families I will dig out my notes and provide further and more accurate information. Regards, Deni

    2. Deni: I've got three collateral Vaughans/Vaughns with Fayette County and round-about McKinney connections. 1. Jane Enochs McKinney, widow of James Alexander McKinney (s/o Daniel & Frances Williams McKinney), m2 Robert Vaughan (sic) 22 Apr 1862. They had daughter Alice abt. 1866. 2. Alvin Radcliff (s/o John and Martha Cullom? Radcliff) b. 28 May 1892; m. Maude Vaughn. Alvin was a great-grandson of Michael and Elizabeth McKinney Radcliff. 3. David Burkhart (s/o George and Elizabeth Osborn Burkhart) m. Anna Minerva Vaughn, 29 Jul 1880, Jasper Co, MO. The Osborns and Burkharts lived in Fayette County in 1860s. Elizabeth's brother, Samuel Wood Osborn m. Frances McKinney (d/o William and Nancy McAliley McKinney). 3. I was too young to remember all of it but I do know how happy my Dad was that his headaches were gone and they didn't return. My Mom told me later in years that when the Dr. put his hands on my Dad's head that he could feel the pain up to his elbows. Must have been a type of migrain. I found out today that my Sister-in-law also saw him. She was a small girl and couldn't walk yet. From what I have been told he treated her and told them she would walk in 2 weeks but they were so anxious that the went back before the 2 weeks were up and he said "she will walk" He was very right, she did walk in 2 weeks. Dr. Smith charged his patients only $2 per visit. There are none left like him. Shirley At 08:31 PM 11/27/00 EST, you wrote: >Do you remember why he was treated and how he did after wards? 1. Re: [ILFAYETT-L] Fwd: 1860 Census [Tharp]
    2. Helen: Checked indices to Fayette County Genealogical Society's printed versions of 1850 (federal), 1855 (state), 1860 (federal) and 1865 (state) censuses. Could not find a Samuel Tharp in any of them. However, these extraction copies are subject to error (and I always could have misread the entries too). I do know that a number of my people, who should be there in 1860, aren't. Shown in 1850: Tharp, Calvin H., 45, farmer, TN; Amy 40, TN; Melinda 17, William E. 14, Francis 12, Mary J. 10, Margaret L. 8, Henry L. 5, Martha A. 3. In 1855: Tharp, Calvin (p. 33): 1 M under 10, 1 M 10-20, 1 M 20-30, 1 M 40-50; 2 F under 10, 1 F 10-20, 1 F 40-50. In 1860 no Tharp families at all are indexed ( and I'd think Calvin should be there). The closest listing is "THROUP?, Josiah, 22, M, farm labor, b. Ohio" -- that question mark is the extractor's, not mine. This fellow is shown living with John & Selina Durban in Howard (now Avena) township. The 1865 Census shows three Tharps: Tharp, Abe (p. 47, Kaskaskia Twp): 2 F under 10, 1 F 20-20, 1 M 30-40 Tharp, John (p. 46, Kaskaskia Twp): 1 M under 10, 1 M & 1 F 20-30 Tharp, C.H. (p. 57, Ramsey Twp): 1 F under 10, 1 M & 2 F, 10-20, 1F 40-50, 1 M 50-60 On the 1870 index are John, Calvin and a Mary Thorp. If you want these listings, let me know.
