Terry, I assume the CW stories that you are heading is only for soldiers that lived or died in Fayette County? I have a bunch for IL, but none for Fayette that I can recall. Larry Martin
I don't think I'd gotten around to a welcome aboard the Fayette County Mail -List, but if not, then welcome! I hope you will all find this list to be useful and helpful in your searches. Now, I need your Help! The IlGenWeb Civil War Project is trying to expand it's pages some. We've added 2 sections to it. One is the Photo page, which Susan Potts is in charge of. If you have any photos of any of your ancestors, or know of anyone that does, and would want to let us put them on the CW Project pages, please get in touch with Susan at [email protected] Now, I'm in charge of the Story, bio and etc. pages. In this we want to present stories of the individual soldier, if at all possible. Both during the war, and some personal after the war. You know, what they did after they got home, and so on. If anyone has any stories (in the form of a diary, or such) regarding specific battles the soldier was in, please send them to me. We intend to link the photo's and stories with the specific soldier in the rosters. In other words if the little camera is next to the individual name in the roster, then there is a photo of that soldier, click on it, and it take you to the picture page, or the icon for the stories (haven't decided on the icon for that) for the story pages. Write to me at [email protected] We think this will make the Civil War Rosters more than just a list of names and units. Since these are our ancestors, they should be more. Thank you, Terry

Greetings ! I am looking for information on Nathaniel Logan Nowlin. He was born in Sumner Co., Tenn. But by the 1830's he had moved to Fayette co., Ill. He married Sarah Reavis whose fatherinlaw was a John Nowlin. I do not know the relationship to Nathaniel. He and Sarah had one son named Preston. Nathaniel married second, Susannah Swisher (1st married Benjamin Moore). Then they moved to DeWitt, Ill. I have lots of info on them after that until abt. 1860. Susanna's mother... Rachel Curl... had lived with them and when she passed away, Nathaniel and Susanna disappeared! I have looked many places and been in contact with lots of NOWLIN family members but no one can connect me to Nathaniel's family. I hope someone here can help. I have other Fayette connections also. Banning, Chatham, Clark. I will make queries as to those names later. Thank you for your interest. Carol Marston [email protected]

Hey all, As you may have known, the IlGenWeb (part of the USGenWeb) is putting the entire Civil War Rosters in the IlGenWeb archives. We have decided to extend that and add a bit. We are now going to be putting pictures of the soldiers (individual, if possible) in the Archives. We need pictures! We can get some, but that is pretty limited. So, if any of you have pictures get hold of Susan Potts (the State Coordinator) so arrangements can be made. You can send her e-mail to [email protected] Also, we are going to be doing another section with stories of the individual soldiers. Kind of a biography, if you will. (More details than AGR has in it's remarks column, at least). Also, if you know where the ancestor is buried, please include that information. We will be linking the photo's to the Rosters, and to the bio (if one exists, that is). So, if you do have either pictures or bio/stories, and would be willing to share them with the rest...please let either Susan or myself know. Be sure to put CW Project/Photo (or BIO) in the subject line. That way we'll know what it is for. Oh, and please be sure to indicate what unit and etc., and also the county. I was beginning to think the list was down, or something. They were all in here 'talking' the other day, then it just got real quiet. I'm the coordinator for Fayette County, and I started the list to try to give ya'll another way to do your searching. Looks like it might do what I wanted it to do. Now, to your message regarding the surname Curry. My husbands g.grandmother was a Curry. I've not enough information, not even a good birth date just yet. That will be forthcoming in the next week or 2. The only thing I know for sure is that she (Margaret Curry) was born, raised and married (1st husband) in Ireland. They came to the United States (don't know when yet). Do any of your Curry's come from Ireland, that you know of? She and her first husband (James(?) Davis) moved to Joppa, Ill (Massac Co.) where I guess he died, or something. She then married Jesse Baccus and they had 2 daughters. I think Margaret and James had 3 or 4 children. They all lived with her in Joppa. When I get that information I'll put it in here too! Have fun with this list, and hope it really does do some real good for the genealogy!
