    1. Christmas Cheer
    2. AZ DEE
    3. 'Twas the night before Christmas when all through the house Not a creature was stirring, not even my spouse. The dining room table with clutter was spread With pedigree charts and with letters which said: "Too bad about the data for which you wrote. It sank in a storm on an ill-fated boat. "Stacks of old copies of wills and the such Were proof that my work had become much too much. Our children were nestled all snug in their beds, While visions of sugarplums danced in their heads. And I at my table was ready to drop From work on my album with photos to crop. Christmas was here, and of such was my lot That presents and goodies and toys I'd forgot. Had I not been so busy with grandparents' wills, I'd not have forgotten to shop for such thrills. While others had bought gifts that would bring Christmas cheer, I'd spent time researching those birthdates and years. While I was thus musing about my sad plight, A strange noise on the lawn gave me such a fright Away to the window I flew in a flash, Tore open the drapes and I yanked up the sash. When what to my nearsighted eyes should appear, But an overstuffed sleigh and eight small reindeer. Up to the housetop the reindeer they flew With a sleigh full of toys, and ol' Santa Claus, too. And then in a twinkling, I heard on the roof The prancing and pawing of thirty-two hoofs. The TV antenna was no match for their horns, And look at my roof, with hoof-prints adorned! As I drew in my head, and bumped it on the sash, Down the cold chimney fell Santa- KEE-RASH! Dear Santa had come from the roof in a wreck And tracked soot on the carpet! I could just wring his neck! Spotting my face, good old Santa could see I had no Christmas spirit, you'd have to agree. He spoke not a word, but went straight to his work And filled all the stockings. (I felt like a jerk). Here was Santa, who'd brought us such gladness and joy; When I'd been too busy for even one toy. He spied my research on the table all spread. "A genealogist!", he cried (My face was all red). "Tonight I've met many like you", Santa grinned, As he pulled from his sack a large book he had penned. I gazed with amazement- the cover it read "Genealogy Lines For Which You Have Plead". "I know what it's like as a genealogy bug", He said as he gave me a great Santa hug. "While the elves make the sleighful of toys I now carry, I do some research in the North Pole Library!"" A special treat I am thus able to bring To genealogy folks who can't find a thing." "Now off you go to your bed for a rest- I'll clean up the house of this genealogy mess. "As I climbed up the stairs full of gladness and glee, I looked back at Santa who'd brought much to me . While settling in bed, I heard Santa's clear whistle To his team, which then rose like the down of a thistle. And I heard him exclaim as he flew out of sight, "Family history is fun! Merry Christmas! Good night!"

    1. Re: Apologies
    2. Teresa (Terry) Davis
    3. Steve, you ready for Christmas? LOL, just kidding! Be glad to try to help you with your search. First, I would suggest that you put a query in the Fayette County GenWeb page. No, you can't give it to me here in the list. You'll have to submit directly to me, and be sure to put Fayette County Query in the Subject line. Give what information you can on a specific person(s). Can't put it in for an entire family without any information on at least one member of that family. The info needed would be first name, maiden name if female, date of birth, date of death, and if possible place of birth/death. If married, if you have any information on the marriage...place/date is useful. Where they lived (what town/city) in Fayette County. Any other pertinent info is helpful. Now, in the Fayette County pages, we cannot search for an entire family, without any specific members named. I live in New Orleans, La., so everything I do is on the Internet. Some, perhaps most of the good people on this list are not in Illinois, let alone Fayette County. However, I think there may be a few. So, if records needed are not on the web, I can't do anything about getting any. There may, as I said, be some on this list that do live in, or near Fayette County that might look records up at the libraries, and etc. You might check the Look-ups page in the Fayette County pages, there are a couple lookups you can e-mail and possibly find out something from them. Hope this helped some. There are many on this list that might be able to help, too! Good Luck Teresa At 09:06 PM 12/1/97 -0800, you wrote: >Hi Teresa! > >By the way Teresa, can you help me get more information on the Harrison >family? 3. Steve and Lisa, I am the listowner for Fayette county, and the Fayette County coordinator in the IlGenWeb. Lisa is right Steve, this is a strictly voluntary list, you would have had to subscribe to it yourself. I would be the only one that could subscribe you (outside of someone on your own computer) and I know I didn't. If you want to unsubscribe, send an e-mail to ILFAYET[email protected] in the body of the message put only UNSUBSCRIBE nothing more. (You may need to put something in the subject line, but the word nothing will do too). If you have any problems let me know. 3. Sorry, Steve, You are apparently enrolled on the Fayette County e-mail list. My message was a reply to a query addressed to that list which was titled "Marlow/Fayette Co, IL" dated November 29. I thought that subscribing to the e-mail list was voluntary, that is you request to be on it. 3. Lila, Sorry, wish I could help, but I have no information other than what was submitted. My connection is throught the MARLOW line. This info came from someone else, and I am rechecking it for myself. I did find the marriage date for Cynthia Davis parents: William F DAVIS & Elizabeth LEDBETTER married Oct 23 1845 in Fayette Co IL. Not so, for Cynthia and her husband Louis G MARLOW. I cannot find a marriage recorded for them, or what happened to this family. The information you sent on the 1850 Fayette Co census was a big help to me as I did not have this. So William & Elizabeth's dau Cynthia was born 1858, and named after Henry Davis' wife Cynthia. If I had come across this, I would have assumed that William was the son of Henry & Cynthia Davis; and had named a dau after his mother! Thanks for your response. Wish I could have been of more help. 3. Hello, Elsie, Would you by chance have more info on Cynthia Ellen Davis' siblings or her parents. I think her father William F. Davis may be the supposed half brother of Henry L. Davis.
