    2. Göran Andersson
    3. Hi all! I´m from Sweden and I´m still looking for my grandfather. I have a someone in Illinois who is helping me to get a SS-5 document. When I´m waiting for that I thought that they of you who are visiting a cemetary, maybe could see if you could find him. His name was Lave Anderson and he was born in 1897 and died in 1965. I know that he died in Illinois, because I´ve found him in the Social Secuity Death Index, but I don´t know exactly where. That is what I want to know. Thanks Göran Andersson

    1. Lesson 3
    2. GenLessons
    3. LESSON 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------ I am sorry I had to change the location of the lesson but AOL wouldn't let me publish it on the other site. The next lesson will be put up next Sunday. Basically from now on we will talk about searchable locations and places to post your surnames. It has sure been one of those days. I hope I can get this on and a transfer from the other page set up. Today we will talk about Pedigree Charts. By now you should have several generations in your program and be ready to print out your pedigree. The best thing about the pedigree is it will show you your direct line relatives. Aunts, Uncles, and cousins are considered colateral relatives. Always be as thorough as you can with every relative. They are all pieces of a puzzle and sometimes you find the middle pieces before the border (grin) If you feel you need more lessons on getting started, using a FHC or getting organized, I recommend Dear Myrtle's Lessons on the Ancestry pages. It is on the free area, so is the SSDI (social security death index). The place I would recommend you start is at USGenWeb. It has each state broken down by county. They list surnames and have query pages. Read thru some and get the feel of it and post your surnames so your relatives that are looking for the same people can contact you. Next Sunday I will list my favorite searchable sites and why they are my favorites. Have a Good Week!

    3. Would be interested in hearing what Evans you have. My Evans ancestors came from Ky to Scott Co., IL and then to Piatt Co., IL. I also have Depew ancestors in Fayette Co. who married into the Wren family there. I haven't looked yet but I think I have the Strother name somewhere in the family. Looking forward to hearing from you. Karen

    2. Carol L. Marston
    3. I have once again been confronted by a great aunt who insists her great grandmother was a full Cherokee Indian. I, on the other hand, have not found any evidence whatsoever of this. How frustrating. She insists that my Nathaniel Logan Nowlins mother was a full Cherokee indian. I must admit that even to this generation, there are strong resemblances to indian heritage. I have checked the different indian rolls for the name Nowlin and it doesn't appear anywhere. Does the Fayette genealogical society have any information as to an indian census or records of marriage? Perhaps someone has information on Indian marriages with whites of that county. I don't believe this is true, but For my great aunt, I must check it out. I hope to visit Fayette in the end of June of this year, but until then, I hope someone can help me. Happy New Year to you all. Carol Marston [email protected]

    3. Dianne -- In your list of names, you included a Charles SMITH -- we just recently discovered that one of my g-grandfathers' sisters married a same name -- Recorded in Fayette County as married 12 Sep 1871 Charles SMITH and Sarilda (Evans) DANLEY Shows that Charles lived with a Herm? Smith (maybe his father) Spelling of Sarilda's name varies according to source. Her father's civil war record spelled it "Cerelda". She had several children by her first husband; she (age 26) and the children (ages 7, 4, 3) lived with her parents during the 1870 census report. In 1880, the youngest child (Mary Jane Danely/Danley) was still with the grandparents. The Danley children were all born in Illinois, although she came with her parents from Indiana. Any connection with your Charles SMITH? Or anyone else -- let's talk directly?? Also, anyone doing DEPWEW, Erabell (female) listed in 1880 census with an 11-yr old son - Strother? Reason: The EVANS and NICHOLS families married and the name Strother/Strauther becomes common in both families....but is NOT a common name outside the family. The Depwew (spelling?) family was counted as next to my EVANS family. Anyone having NICHOLS - EVANS - DUNAWAY families -- would like to contact for specific names in your line. Will share my info!! DIANNE -- keep up the great work. THANKS. Looking forward to asking specific questions about my Nichols as soon as I get some marriage record copies back. Margie (Schuetz) Whitney Cocoa, FL

    1. List of Names
    2. AZ DEE
    3. Hi Everyone, In case you didn't notice, I put the auto reply to the list on :-) It is hard to give dates and further information on the many names I have put plus the many, many, more to post. I figured if a name looked familiar you would ask and I could fill in data. I have over a ream (500) of copies from my short stay in Vandalia. They were spread all over the VA-WV area then on to IL, KY, MO Most were Scot or Irish or German Immigrants. With one swedish thrown. Most of the information is from the 1800's. Some I have birth marriage and death dates. Also children and parents. It is impossible to put all of it on the list. I will try to do better and get a date now and then but like I said I have a lot of information on some and little on others. I have done about 20-25 sheets by just doing the main names. There is so much!!! I worked on Lesson one on the online genealogy class and have it on its own page. I will change it Thursdays and Sundays. I will keep a backup copy of each lesson in case someone misses it. If you want to copy the lessons, you will have to copy and paste because it would come out in html form if you just copy the page. I usually copy it, then click on mail and copy into the main body of the message. If you have too much trouble, You can send SASE and I will send them snail mail. The address for the lesson page is: http://members.aol.com/AZDEE/lesson.html <A HREF="http://members.aol.com/AZDEE/lesson.html">Online Genealogy Lessons </A> . I hope that all that wanted the lessons finds them. If not let me know. I do the best I can for all of you and try to provide new or looked for information. Let's try to be kind and patient. If you want to do the names etc I will ship the papers to you and you can have a good time. I can only sit at the computer for so long due to a few medical problems. I am sorry, I'm tired and getting cranky. I am going to go before I stick both feet in my mouth LOL. I really enjoy genealogy, it kind of fills a void in my life. I am happy to help where ever I can. I will not do anyones genealogy but I will help them every step of the way. Take care of yourselves and keep on digging! Dianne

    2. Elsie Arcuri
    3. Hi Goran, I just checked the Social Security Death Index for your Lave Anderson. Name LAVE ANDERSON Born 27 Jan 1897 Died Jan 1965 Residence (none given) Last Benefit (none given) SSN 325-05-8383 Issuing State Illinois Issued Before 1951 http://www.ancestry.com/ssdi/advanced.htm You might go to this address and look for other members of his family, and possibly get a clue as to what county he was living in. The following is where you may obtain information on getting a copy of your grandfather's Social Security Application. This application would possibly give name of parents, where he was living, etc. http://www.ssa.gov/history/2455rev.html Below is a lookup from the Genealogy Helplist. Click on this address and give name of grandfather and date of death. If the lookup finds your grandfather, then the county of death should be given also. Anna L.
