Judy..... I got the location information from a pamphlet put out by the Effingham Historical Society (now affiliated with the Genealogical Society). But in "Effingham County Past and Present" page 62 and 63, it says re Union Township: "Very early in the settlement of Union Township, there were services held by the "New Lights," or Christians. They first organized in the township about the year 1848 in the home of Ahart Simmermann. The first preacher of this congregation was Stephen A. Williams, who also lived in the township. This group continued to worship in homes and schoolhouses until the year 1870 when they built a frame church a short distance from the southern boundary of the township. In 1924 the present church was built, and it is located a little more than a mile west of Eberle and two miles north of Clay County. This congregation, then, is one of the oldest in the county. It is known as Bethsaida Church of Christ." Hope this helps.... Linda At 11:22 AM 11/29/1999 -0500, you wrote: >This discussion is amazingly timely!
