    3. After reading the 50th Anniversary book, 1853-1903, Effingham, Illinois for the 5th time, (or more) I noticed that there is 2 pictures of Lutheran Churches. Since I have lived here all my life, I have never heard of there being another one other than St. John's Lutheran Church that is on the S. W. corner of Center [now West Jefferson] Avenue & Cherry Street. So when I found the picture in the 50th Anniversary of Effingham Illinois book, the picture of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where was it located at? This is what I found out: St Paul's Lutheran Church was located in the 900 block of Shelby Avenue [now 700 block] on the south side of the block. It must of taken up the whole block where houses are now. What I have not found out yet though is what happened to it? Was it like the 2 catholic churches here? In the 1900 city directory it says that St, John Lutheran church was German speaking and St. Paul's Lutheran Church was English speaking. That is how St. Anthony's Catholic church was, German speaking and Scared Heart, English speaking. So if anyone knows anymore about St. Paul's Lutheran Church, please let me know.
