Hi - Regarding Summit, IL - The small town of Gays, IL in Moultrie Co. was called Summit in its early days. Supposedly it was called Summit because it was the highest point on the railroad between Indianapolis and St. Louis. Later it was named Gays. If Summit Township is not the answer or if there is not another Summit, IL. then perhaps one would want to check with Moultrie Co. This would have also bordered the eastern part of Shelby. Eileen B.
