I think I am looking for a William ORR and Catherine NIXON who married 1844 in Indiana. If my memory serves me correct, I think William was listed as being born in Kentucky and Caroline in Alabama.They then went to Illinois, Iowa, Illinois, and finally Texas. They had the following children: Elizabeth, born 1846 in Indiana Charles, born 1849 in Illinois John, born 1852 in Illinois JASPER, BORN October 2, 1855 in IOWA Ruth, born 1865 in Illinois A copy of Jasper Winfield ORR's (my ggrandfather) death certificate has his birth place listed as IOWA. on the death certificate. Some family said he was from Iowa but most said Illinois. This line descended from 3 brothers who came to America from Scotland. Some of this family was supposed to have been found on the Coles County, Illinois 1850 Census, Clay County Illinois 1860 census. The1870 Effingham County Illinois census is supposed to list Jasper as being born in Iowa and living with a family named WRIGHT as a farmer. His father William and sister Ruth are listed on the 1870 Effingham County Illinois census. Caroline his wife is not listed - ? may have died. In every census record after 1870 I am told that Jasper Winfield ORR lists his birth place as Illinois. My mother, his grandaughter, always said he was from Illinois. I have been unable to obtain definite proof this is my Jasper Winfield ORR's family, but I strongly suspect it is. I do not have actual copies of the census records only the information I have been told about them. One think that makes it difficult is that some of the Texas descendants of this family, named Jasper Henry ORR, his children Wesley Nevill ORR, and Elsie Mae ORR, all legally changed their surname to ORE and their obituary notices reflect that change.
