Fellow Listers........ Since I only have a couple of families who migrated to the area from Tennessee in the early days of the County (1823-1825), I'm not that active as a regular participant, but DO keep up with ALL the messages in hope I might get lucky on some info on my ancestors! My ancestor was Roderick (Roddy) Jenkins, Jr. He was born in 1787 probably in Rowan Co, NC and came to Tn with his Dad about 1798-99. He was married abt 1806-7 to Martha "Patsy" Witcher, daughter of Daniel Witcher. They had 3 children before 1810 (no names or sexes!!). 'Patsy' died in 1815 at the age of 22, but have no info on a 2nd wife for Roddy. His father, Roderick, Sr. died in 1823, and I believe this is about the time Roddy, Jr. left Tn for "points" West! A group of travellers from Tn made the trek together which included: David Parkhurst and his wife, Jane 'Jenny' Jenkins (sister of Roddy, Jr.) and Jonathan Parkhurst (brother of David) and his wife, Sarah Brockett. Sarah died abt 1844 in Effingham Co and Jonathan married Mary Powell (Sealock) on May 12, 1846. I have also learned thru a very short visit to the Effingham Co (and the help of our ListMom, Linda) that Roddy was quite a handful when he had a few drinks...... and that seemed to happen quite often!! He would get drunk and even fight with his best friends for 'entertainment'........once biting the NOSE of his opponent totally off! He was later repaid in full for this act as his nose was also bitten off!! It was stated that from that time on he wore some type of 'nose mask' or covering fashioned from leather. With ALL this said, I was not able to spend enough time at the Library to determine the names of Roddy's children, grandchildren, etc., or if he did remarry!!! CAN ANYONE HELP?????? Gary J. PS.
