I hope this is appropriate for the list... I just returned from Effingham Co. IL I Wanted to share some of my experiences there. First let me say, there are some great folks out there in this old world. One being the Mr. Pagel at the funeral home in Edgewood. I went to the funeral home there in Edgewood asking for his assistance to locate the graves of my ancestors. He not only looked up their location in his book, he copied pages from that book for me, then he lead the way to the cemetery and stayed with us until we found every grave site. He also made rubbings of several of my ancestors headstones. He was so generous, and pleasant making my visit there so rewarding. Not to long ago my Aunt Sara who is 96 years young, told me that my great grandfather was " A mean dude" when he died his wife Belle MOWREY RICE had him buried in Potter's Field there in Edgewood. And you know what? She was right!!! He has a large monument marking his grave with her name on the other side.. however she is buried in the main cemetery there. Several of their children who died in infancy are buried beside him, and listed in the cemetery records there.
