I am looking for information on Mary Dettert from Effingham, IL. According to her husband's obituary in the Altamont News of June, 1929, she was married to Bernard "Barney" Hilmes of Altamont, IL around 1875 and presumably died sometime before 1887. They lived in Altamont and had a daughter Anna, born 3/14/1878 in Altamont and died 7/26/1952 in Altamont. Barney later re-married (to Mary K. Lipsmeir-Wasmuth) and they lived in Altamont until their deaths in 1929 / 1926. Does anyone know who Mary Dettert's parents and family were, and when / where she died? Excerpted from Effingham News As Reported in the Effingham Volksblatt, 1884-1886, page 196: (From Thurs, Apr 15, 1886) Died: Mrs. Marie Hilmes, born Deters, died on Sunday monring after suffering about six months from consumption at the age of 30 years at the home of her husband, Mr. B.H. Hilmes, in Altamont. The body was transported here [Effingham] via the Vandalia Railroad on Tuesday, where the funeral at the Catholic cemetery took place with a large number of participants. The deceased leaves behind a grieving husband and four minor children to mourn her early demise. May she rest in peace.
