Steve, my mother was a Deters......her family settled in Shelby County around that period. Her great-grandparents, grandmother and grandfather and several uncles and aunts are buried in the small Catholic cemetary outside of Sigel, Illinois. I don't know that my mother had any great aunts or uncles from Altamont though. Marie Hilmes is most likely buried in the cemetary a few hundred yards from the house my mother grew up in....which is in Effingham. It's large though.....it'll be tough to find her stone, but perhaps she's buried near some of my own relatives. My mother's parents, Elsie and Herbert Deters, are buried in the cemetary I speak of. I'm taking some to visit family right after Labor Day.....would you like me to try and find Marie's stone, Steve? Perhaps her parents are right next to her....could be. She did get transported to Effingham and that could be the reason. Matt, Thanks for the reply. Yes, I would be interested in any info you can give me on Mary / Marie Deters. I just found out about a week ago that she was my great-grandfather Hilmes' first wife. Again, Thank You.
