Sep 1839 in IN to Henry P. and Susan Landreth BAILEY. What I have found, and what I am missing is: Eliza married ? RANKIN. They had Viola RANKIN abt. 1857. Then he died. Who was Mr. RANKIN? Nora BAILEY has this as her first marriage. Eliza married Jobel J. RANDELL October 30, 1858. In the 1860 census she is living with he and his daughter Cassie (she was born abt. 1858-59, according to the 1860 census). What happened to Jobel and Cassie? I have been unable to find either of them after that. When and where was he born? Eliza married William LOWDER on January 05, 1860. In 1862 they had Henry Lowder. What happened to William? Eliza married Calvin AUSTIN March 08, 1865. They had - and this I'm not sure of - Frank H. AUSTIN in August of 1869. Were there any other children? When she died, her name was still Austin. In the 1900 census, Frank H. was living with Calvin and Eliza Jane, and they had been married 34 years. In The History of Effingham Co., Historical and Biographical, either the 1883 or 1910 version has her married to Calvin Austin. That is my timeline according to the children and some census information. Now here are my contradictions: IL Marriage Database shows Jobel J. Randell marrying Elizabeth A. Austin The 1860 census shows Cassie Randell living with Eliza and William Lowder.IL Marriage Database shows William Lowder marrying (Mrs.) Eliza Randell. I am so confused!! This one might take a little thought but the Effingham Co. Marriage book 1833-1877 says that John Randall and Eliza Jane Baily were married Mar 21 1854 by Jacob Bishop. M.G. I would question another marriage to Rankin. Eliza married William Lowder on Jan 5, 1860 and in the 1860 they are living in Ewington with Casse age two and Wyatt Bailie, possibly a brother to Eliza. She is only 20 then. Could it be that the husband that died was John Randell and not Rankin?
