>From the list mom....... The reason I didn't post the URL for this marriage list is that it is far from complete. Just because your surnames are not on this list does not mean they are not where you expect them to be. Keep checking the site because new names/counties will be added as time goes on... I had planned to let you know about it when it was more complete.. Dear Group Members: Many you may know of this site, but I just learned of it yesterday. It is the Secretary of State in Illinois marriage list server. You can find any marriage from 1763 - 1900 by spouce or county or state wide if you wish. Give it a try, it sure would have saved me some time twenty years ago! http://www2.sos.state.il.us/cgi-bin/marriage Sincerely, Kevin E. Dear Gayle: I am continuing to have a very difficult time with my Oliver research. Even with you information you have forwarded to me I am at a brick wall. As you know Irvin (Irwin), listed his fathers name as Martin Oliver and his mother as Maria ?Radabruch, on his marriage license. According to the Effingham County information I received his father is listed as Nathan Nelson as well as Matthew. I have attempted to follow this family backward to PA with no success. I have also attempted searching into the married names of Irwins sisters hoping to find a link in that direction as well as search for his brothers. Unfortunately, no results. Do you have any idea how I would go about determining the cemetary Irvin is buried in? Perhaps I can write for burial information and that will lead me into a new direction. Have you any suggestions? I am posting what info I have on this family at this time in hope that some other researchers is linked. Thank you again for your kind assistance. Sandy [email protected] 1. Sandy, I was sent to your webpage through Tissie Schwebel's page. She originally contacted me through a Bruner posting I had made. I descend from John H. Bruner who, according to his Civil War enlistment papers was born in Hawkins County, TN. Hawkins County (today) is right next to Green County, TN where, it seems many descendants of Jacob Bruner of Fredrick, MD settled and/or passed through. My John H. Bruner was born in either 1821 or 1823, dependent upon whether you believe his Civil War enlistment papers (into Company C, 49th Indiana Volunteer Infantry) or the 1850 Harrison County, IN Federal Census. John H. Bruner married into the prominent and well established Avery family who were some of the first settlers of Harrison County, IN. He wed Cynthia Ann Avery in Louisville, Ky on April 22, 1846. John and Cynthia had 5 children, all born in Blue River Township, Harrison County, IN. John H. Bruner's service in the Civil War was short, Oct 1861 to January 18,1862 when he died of pneumonia at Bardstown, KY. (His recorded life with Cynthia is well documented by virtue of her Civil War pension record.) Here's my probem. I have absolutely no information on John H. Bruner's parents or other ancestors. I suspect he may have some conection to a Daniel Bruner who seemed to show up in Harrison County, IN records about the same time as John. There was also a George Washington Bruner, who by age was old enough to be John H.'s father or uncle in Harrison County. Problem is I just can't make any conections. This is where I hope you can help. Do you have an information on the Harrison County, IN Bruners, or better yet, anything on the Hawkins County, TN Bruners? Any help is greatly appreciated. John S Raschke

Viki, The genealogy department of the Helen Matthes Library in Effingham has 3 or 4 storkeepers books from Ewington for the early 1800's. There are in the history section. The books lists items purchased and the name of the person purchasing them. Audrey Garbe
Hello, I was curious if anyone knows of a resource that would list an individuals name and what they purchased from local merchants in Effingham County during the time period from 1840-1848. I am looking for my ancestors, Permelia Stallings Phillips Levitt and her 2nd husband Thomas Levitt death date and buriel place. Last year I could not find a death date for another ancestor but did find a purchase for clothe and ribbon made by her son. The clothe was used to place in her coffin, the ribbon wrapped around it. Although, it did not give me her date of death it did narrow it down! Would appreciate your feedback. Thanks for your help, Viki
