I checked Bethsaida cemetery and did not find anyone named Little. The stones were read in 1976 so Carl would be listed if he was buried there. ---------- > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Subject: [ILEFFING-L] cemeteries > Date: Saturday, November 27, 1999 1:04 PM > > I am trying to learn the name of the cemetery where my grandparents are > buried. Sorry Patrick, There are no Bishops or Funkhousers buried at Bethsaida. Funkhouser is a common name here and I'm sure you have researched the other cemeteries in the county but If I can help in any way let me know. Audrey
Audrey, Ludie Mae Keller Evans, wife of Tony Wright Evans is buried there also. Ludie died 15 November 1985, she was the daughter of Charles Alexander Keller and Clarissa Elliott Keller and she was my aunt. Kate Keller Bourland >The following was taken from the book. The following was taken from the book. EFFINGHAM COUNTY--PAST AND PRESENT. Effingham Historical Society 1968 Bethsaida Cemetery and Bethsaida Church are related. The church is two miles west of Eberle in the northwest corner of section 25 at the crossroads. The cemetery is across the road and northeast in section 24. Both are on land of the Alonzo Jacobs estate. Many of the burials have been made in Bethsaida within the past forty years, although some burials date back to Civil War times. Sixty-one-year old Lilllie E. Mills was remembered by her children with this epitaph on her tomabstone: "She always leaned to watch for me, Anxious if we were late. In winter by the window--In summer by the gate." D.M. Shephard, who lived about two mliles west of Bethsaida Church, while returning from Mason with supplies, was waylaid on the old Flensburg bridge by some squatters he had had trouble with. He was beaten so badly he died. Neighbors found him two days later and he was buried in Bethsaida Cemetery in 1864. Tony Evans, who lived about five miles west of Bethsaida, was buried in 1967, perhaps the most recent burial. Bethsaida is well kept and still used as a neighborhood burial ground. Other names noted on stones in the cemetery are: Jacobs, Woody, Willison, Richars, Mills, Westfall, Gross, Redding, Hummel, Cooper,Martin, White, Osborn, Scruggs, Hinds, Mikeworth, Gossman, Monahan, Cox, Kemke, Redman, Neeld, Willis, Clark and Lohman. Several Civil War soldiers are buried in Bethsaida, including four from Col. John J. Funkhouser's Regiment. the 98th Illinois Infanrry. I will be glad to do look-ups for Bethsaida Cemetery. This discussion is amazingly timely! I just learned of some collateral relatives buried at Bethsaida Cemetery yesterday! Is this a church cemetery connected to Bethsaida Church? What denomination is this church? Linda, Thanks for the information. I have more research to do so will keep the directions until I know for sure where they are. Barbara Tennessee
Belinda, I think I'll request death certificates which I hope have the burial site listed on them so that I can ask exactly where the cemetery is. I appreciate your response and may ask the favor when I know for sure where they are. Barbara Zedaker Faig Gatlinburg, Tennessee
If it is Bethsaida cemetery, it is located South on Route 45 to the Mason-Eberle Road, then 3 miles East, 1 mile South to Bethsaida Church. Section 24 Alonzo Jacobs Property. Barbara - My grandparents are buried at Bethsadie (not sure if this is the correct spelling). I'm not sure of the exact location, but it is near the area you mentioned and is a rural cemetery. If this sounds right, my sisters still live in central Illinois and could tell me how to get there. As some of you know, I am also a genealogy chat host on AOL. AOL's resources used to be limited solely to AOL members. But...there are new developments and I thought I'd share them with you. AOL's Genealogy Forum can now be accessed to a degree by those not on AOL. We are moving many of our information boards and message boards to the Internet with the hopes of reaching people like you to help with your research. At this time, the chat rooms have not been moved to the Internet and I am not sure exactly what the future will hold for that. To find us on the Internet, please use the following URL. www.genealogyforum.com We are still in the process of moving files and such, so keep checking back. Our Beginners Center, Resource Center and the Internet Center have been moved and links are being added all the time. You can also find our monthly Newsletter on the Internet, with our columnists DearMYRTLE, Along those Lines by George Morgan, as well as others (I have an article in the November issue). Check this site out often as it expands. Give me your feedback and I will forward it on to the people in charge. The more you use it, the more incentive we will have to put more of it on the Web for you. Linda

Hi Linda, Yep, this address is good. About the trip to Illinois I will be taking...won't be going in early December. Maybe late January or February. Sorry about that. Look forward to hearing from you via email a good deal in the future. Send me a message about your trip. Have a safe and happy one. I'll be busy right up to December though. My uncle, Ken Deters, and his family will be driving to Delaware to attend the nuptials. My dad's father, Bill Smallwood, and his wife, who live near Gila in Jasper County are going to be here also. Can't wait to spend time with them all. Hope to hear from you soon. Sincerely, Matt Smallwood> You do not need to reply to this posting. > > I am testing for bad addresses that I need to remove. > > Linda (the listmom)
