    3. The IRAD that you are looking for is at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston Illinois. I know cause we just went there to do some research of our own and it was for effingham County. We live about 10 minutes from there. They will take phone requests if you have one and the phone number is 217 581 6093 and they are more than happy to help. For death records you might check the Social security Death index at www.rootsweb.com there is a link there to the most complete version of the SSDI. Hope this helps, Mike Moore M L Fuller wrote: > The state marriage index states that an Otto KNOPF married a Zella M. > BARROWS on 13 Jul 1898. 3. The state marriage index states that an Otto KNOPF married a Zella M. BARROWS on 13 Jul 1898. When I checked the IRAD addresses, I did not see where marriage records for Effingham County are included. I'd like to know the names of the parents of Otto to determine if he is a brother to my great-grandfather. He is not on the state death index for the years 1916-1946 so I have no idea when he might have died to try to obtain a death record. Any suggestions?

    3. I don't know what's happening in the past few weeks, but I'm not pleased and am going to check on it and do my very best to stop it. For example, I have received several off-topic postings including something about the sale of plates, a query about wanting to be part of a "discussion" group (as opposed to this mail list) and a lot of spam. This is not the purpose of this mail list. All commercial endeavors are prohibited on this list. I will not hesitate to remove any party from the list who tries to pursue any activity other than Effingham County genealogy and activities related thereto. On a much more pleasant note, I now have a new computer that should help me with the Effingham County page. As a matter of fact, I just added a list of town name changes and "ghost towns" (even though some people may still live there) from Effingham County. The concept of "ghost town" for this purpose may mean that even though people still live in the area, there is no active business district anymore. There are two new publications for sale by the Effingham Genealogical and Historical Society and I am waiting for information so that I can add them to the publication list. If you have any questions or suggestions for the page, let me know, but please keep in mind that I am not a computer genius, so please keep it simple <grin>..... Linda

What questions do you have? Cause I probably don't know how to answer it. This freaked me out bad, as I have never sent anything to a list that was wrong. 3. Linda, I can only do cemetery, census, and marriage lookups for this person. A quick glance looks like her people are buried in Oakridge Cemetery. There is a writeup on John C. White in the 1883 History of Effingham County book I have also. Should I email her directly or is someone else already responding to this request? 1. [ILEFFING-L] City Directories
    2. Nancy Smith
    3. Does Effingham have city directories for the 1890's? I am continuing my quest to find my Great Grandfather, Elmer E. GAST. My Grandmother was born in Effingham in October 1891. So, I am looking for Elmer and Esther Gast to be there throughout most of the 1890's. They might be living with the CREAGERs (Esther's family). Elmer and Esther had 3 children born in Effingham. However, I can't find them there in 1900. I need a way to check for them during the years 1890 - 1898. Also, would a city directory have a list of businesses known to be in Effingham in the 1890's? I would like to see a list of business for the city from then. I have several pictures I would like to better understand. One is a group of men who appear to be working together, but it is a posed professional picture. I would like to know if the stamp on the side is the photographer. Therefore, I need a list of businesses in Effingham in the 1890's. The picture is clearly taken in Effingham. Thanks, Nancy J. Smith [email protected]

An Oldenburg Website maintained by a professors at the University. http://WWW.UNI-oldenburg.de/nausa The latter two sites are in German, although some entries are translated.

    3. Sandy, There once was a town by the name of Moccasin, it now is just a group of houses and a fertilizer company. Two railroads cross at the site. It is located in Moccasin Twp. Effingham Co. There is a Moccasin cemetery just west of the town site.Pleasant Grove Cemetery is located just west of the Moccasin cemetery. St. Paul's Lutheran Church also has a cemetery. There is also a Dowty private burial ground and a site where a Gypsy was buried. I believe you could get information for any church cemetery that had an active church. Just write to the church and tell them you are researching your family and need some information. I have always found them to be cooperative.Sometimes if a church disbands another of the same denomination will take over the records. Effingham Co. records for the two cemeteries in Moccasin Twp. does not list anyone by the name of EVERLEN Good luck, Audrey Garbe ---------- > From: [email protected] > To: [email protected] > Subject: [ILEFFING-L] Moccasin Illinois - Everlen's > Date: Tuesday, November 30, 1999 5:23 AM > > Dear Listers: > I am in search of information from Moccasin, Illinois. 3. I found a listing for Edna Little 1893-1981 and Carl H. Little 1878-1948 in the cemetery book for Oak Ridge Cemetery, I think it is also called the Effingham City Cemetery. There is also a listing for E. A. Little in another section of the cemetery 1877-1912. Another Cemetery with listings for the surname Little is in Beecher City. If you are interested in them let me know. Someone more familiar with Effingham than I would have to tell you what roads Oak Ridge Cemetery is on. 3. Judy..... I got the location information from a pamphlet put out by the Effingham Historical Society (now affiliated with the Genealogical Society). But in "Effingham County Past and Present" page 62 and 63, it says re Union Township: "Very early in the settlement of Union Township, there were services held by the "New Lights," or Christians. They first organized in the township about the year 1848 in the home of Ahart Simmermann. The first preacher of this congregation was Stephen A. Williams, who also lived in the township. This group continued to worship in homes and schoolhouses until the year 1870 when they built a frame church a short distance from the southern boundary of the township. In 1924 the present church was built, and it is located a little more than a mile west of Eberle and two miles north of Clay County. This congregation, then, is one of the oldest in the county. It is known as Bethsaida Church of Christ." Hope this helps.... Linda At 11:22 AM 11/29/1999 -0500, you wrote: >This discussion is amazingly timely!
