Hello list, Since everyone has been talking about books lately, I thought I would throw something out there.... A distant cousin of mine got in contact with me a few months ago. She was the niece of a man (who?) who had written a 64 page book on the Luechtefeld/Luchtefeld family of Illinois, concentrating of the Luchtefeld family of Effingham County. Well, since that time, something has happened to her because her email is not receiving any more mail. At first I thought I had just made too many requests to help me identify people and she had somehow made it so MY emails did not get to her. Then I tried sending an email to her via my work account and my boss's personal account, both coming up with the same message that "this user's account cannot accept any more email." This has been going on for a few months now. I have tried to obtain a copy of the out-of-print book from the LDS library in Salt Lake, but it doesn't seem to have a microfilm or any other accession number. The librarians there tell me they have no record of that surname at all, in any form, in any database. So, I was wondering, does anyone have a copy of this book or does the genealogical society there have one or does anyone know of anyone else, preferably with email, who might have a copy? Russell D. Could someone let me know when the quarterly's go out for the effingham county Genealogical society? We joined it back in early november I believe and we haven't gotten a quarterly yet. Just curious, I have been anxiously awaiting it. Thanks for the info on the book though, we are going to try to get one ordered also. Much appreciated, and also appreciate the work you do on the page. Mike Moore Linda Kralman-Lambert wrote: > I just finished updating the Effingham County page, so go in and take a > peek. Brenda send this to me directly, and I don't have the resources to help her. Can anyone on our mail list help her? Linda (the list mom) Date: Fri Jan 7 19:32:54 2000 Name: Brenda Summers Emailto:[email protected] URL: Help. I have a very strange request. My great-uncle died in September of 1999. I was not informed of his death until a couple of months later. I looked on the web to see if Effingham's newspaper was on line but no such luck. The Decatuer Herald had an obituary in their September 21, 1999 edition but I don't have access to their previous papers. I was wondering if there is a kind soul who could get a copy of my great-uncle's obituary and email it to me? His name was Stanley Ray KIMBERLIN and he was 87 when he died. Any help in this matter that anyone could give would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I've been working on the Effingham County Genweb page today, and have noticed that some of the queries that have been sent to me involve looking for people who may possibly still be living. FYI, I adhere to the policies of normal GEDCOM procedures which suppress information about living individuals. Please be assured that I will do my best to keep from posting queries of this type on the Effingham County page. If I think that the information submitted relates to living people, I will not post that query. Patti, If no one else has given you info yet, I can send you 5 pages from the Montrose Cemetery transcriptions that contain 13 Browning names: Nellie, Rebecca, Irene, John Henry, Betty Maxine, James E, Vivian G, Minor S, Velma I, Bobby Max, Margaruite, Anna, and Nadine. Most have birth dates and some have date of death. I can also send you pages from marriage record transcriptions for Richard Mattis and Mary J Browning, Isaac Good and Iva M. Browning, Adm Keinborts and Deborah Browning and Charles Browning and Bertha Brady. One of the marriage books 1833-1877 show some entries with Zera Browning as the Justice of the Peace. I did not find any Browning names in the Effingham Census. If you want these copies, send your u.s. mail address to my email address. After you receive the copies, if you want to pay for them, send whatever donation you wish to the Effingham Genealogy and Historical Society, PO box 1166, Effingham, Il 62401. Hello fellow listers!! I'm brand-new to the Effingham list. So first, a question before I get into my family lines. Who should one write or email to ask about the possibility of finding obits from the 1960's and forward? Now to my family. I am looking for any information, descendants, etc., of the family of Zera C. Browning. Zera married Amanda ?? (I think it's Amanda....the census is so very faint) in Cumberland Co. but moved to Effingham Co between 1880-1900. He and Amanda had one son, Daniel Edward, b. 10 May 1865 in Cumberland Co. Daniel married Rebecca C. (??) c1887 and they had the following children: i. Charles Elmer, b. Apr 1888 ii. Bertha Nevada, b. Jul 1889 iii. Nellie Leota, b. Jun 1892 iv. John Henry, Sep 1893 v. unknown, b. c1895 vi. Dessie May, b. Jul 1887 vii. Minor St. Clair (male), b. Mar 1900 I am given to understand that at least two of these children lived and died in or around Montrose/Effingham. Minor died in Oct 1975 in Effingham and Charles Elmer died in 1968 in Montrose. According to the SS Death index, a woman named Vivian Browning died in Effingham in Jan 1995, but I don't know how she's related exactly either. I would love to correspond with anyone researching this family, or with anyone who could give me the slightest tidbit of information. I am awaiting death certificates, etc., but I like the personal touch as well. Thanks to all, and happy hunting! Patti (Browning) Strickler Richardson TX (email: [email protected])
