    3. John, I was taken to that old cemetery once, years ago. I can't give you directions, but I am sure there are lots of older people in Effingham or Watson, who can. If you can't get to the library when it's open, I would think someone in the Post Office could tell ou. If Ican find someone with the directions, I will post it to you here. 1. Re: [ILEFFING-L] Re: John H. BRUNER
    2. Mary, The short answer is no. My great uncle, James Curtis Martin died last October 18 in Watson. I may no have told you then, but last Nov 1, I retired from the Army after 33 years of service. My life was so completely up for grabs, that I let all kinds (except for eating) of things go while in the process of retiring and looking for a new job which would enable me to stay in Springfield, IL where my son is a junior in high school. Well, I found a job, but unfortunately lost "Curt" before I got around to asking him about the old cemetery. I hope that I may be able to get over to the library in Effingham sometime this year and find out more about this mysterious cemetery. As I recall, I got the location of it by looking in one of the old plat books and it was located on or near the old Martin farm. Although this requires more information, from the lack of information on the whereabouts of Jonathan Martin and David Martin's first wife, I really believe they are buried at this location. I haven't forgotten, I just have been too preoccupied. How have you been? I just within the last month, sat down and added the Pugh genealogy that you sent me. It seems to me I have a few questions on this line, but right now, I can't remember what they are. I'll get back to you. Just this past weekend, I located a Sinkler relative who descends from Tabitha Sinkler, sister of Betsy Ann "Nanny" Sinkler Martin (wife of James L. Martin, my great-grandparents). She's going to send me some stuff and said she had been talking with someone who was familiar with our Martins, and she may have something to share. I'll keep you posted, but as always, its nice to hear from you. John S. Raschke

    2. To: Effingham Mailing List Subject: Forwarding Notes When forwarding notes, please COPY the information from the note and PASTE it into the note you send to the Mailing List, or any list for that matter. Doing a COPY-Paste operation eliminates the routing information which is included when you simply forward a note. It also eliminates all of the annoying >>> symbols. This will make the resulant note easier to read. Thanks. : )

BRUNER Carla, Thanks alot for the Bruner info. My problem is that I cannot definitely connect my John H. Bruner to any other brothers, sisters or his parents for that matter. He was born in about 1823 in Hawkins County, TN according to his Civil War enlistment papers into Company C, 49th Indiana Volunteer Infantry. This unit was made up of volunteers from southern IN, especially, Harrison and Floyd Counties. John married Cynthia Ann Avery in Louisville, KY 4-22-1846 and they are listed in the 1850 U.S. Census in Harrison County. John H. Bruner died on 1-18-1862 at Bardstown, KY according to Cynthia's widow's pension papers. The children between them are: Isaac H. Bruner nee 10-29-1849 in Harison County, IN no further information is known. Mary Jane Bruner (my gggrandmother) nee 8-11-1851 in Harrison County, IN she married: 1) John Wise and 2) William A. Montgomery both marriages were performed in Effingham County, IL. Susan A. Bruner nee 12-12-1855 in Harrison County, IN. She married 1) Judge A. Bryant, 2) Isaac O. Barlow and 3) Samuel Snead. Joseph M. Bruner nee 12-22-1857 in Harrison County, IN. He married a Mary Jo ?? and nothing further is know about this family. Nancy Caroline Bruner nee 12-13-1860 in Harrison, County, IN. She married a Wiley K. Bly. The widow, Cynthia and her children went to Effingham County, IL in the mid to late 1860s. The Bruner children all seem to have disappeared, including Mary Jane Bruner Wise Montgomery who supposedly moved back to Harrison County, IN (according to Cynthia's widow's pension papers) with her mother. Both Mary Jane and Cynthia are believed to have died in Harrison County, IN in the mid to late 1870s, but I could never find a reliable record of their deaths, tombstones, or graves. Any help is most appreciated. John S. Raschke

    1. [ILEFFING-L] Re: Bruner
    2. Cousin Diana, Thanks alot about the tip for John H. Bruner on family search. I have tried that site, but to no avail. There were several other Johns but not my John H. or any others that met his approximate birth year. The strange thing is that some of those people and Bruner families who do come out of Hawkins and Green Counties, TN do end up in Harrison and Floyd Counties, IN. And of course, my Bruners/Averys then went to Effingham County, IL and then for the most part disappear. I really wish I could make a solid connection to John H., but so far, its only speculation. I sincerely appreciate you keeping an eye out for me on this issue, and hope that between you and some of the other Avery/Bruner descendants I've cc'd here, maybe someday we'll solve this mystery. Thanks again, and best regards. John S. Raschke
