    3. heads up, genealogy lovers, and I hope Effingham history lovers as well. Concerning Wild Cat Hallow. A group wanting to change the name of the area, wanting to allow ATVs and horseback riding in area, part of this area once owned by the Keplar family - 1st lady lawyer of Illinois. On front page of Effingham County - please let me hear your feedback. My opinion is to save this area for our future generations - it is great to walk there, and see it as my ancestors once did - but I would like to hear all sides, THIS IS PART OF OUR HISTORY - OUR PAST - AND OUR FUTURE --------------------------------- Do You Yahoo!? The official definition is: A powerful alliance designed to forward and enhance the lifelong process of Human learning, effectiveness and fulfillment. Much like a star athlete works with a coach to go to the Olympics or a football team to the Super Bowl a personal success coach works with you to gain fulfillment in all areas of your life. How would you answer these questions: - Are you living the life you have always dreamed of living? - Have you recently woken up and wondered how you got here to this place in your life? - Do you love what you do professionally but have no personal life? - How about a great personal life but you're not where you want to be professionally? - Is everything in your life great, but you still want to go farther? And how would you describe your life? - a pencil sketch - a pen and ink drawing - or a multicolored, 3 dimensional, tastebud tantalizing , music to your ears, food for your soul, multimedia extravaganza As your coach, I work with you to examine all areas of your life and assist you in moving them to a level of fulfillment that you have always dreamed of or hoped they would be. It's a partnership in which you bring your life's goals and I help you actualize them. Here is how it works: First, we setup an intake session to identify the life areas that you want to focus on and we create a plan of action. This is the framework of our partnership. This session will last a couple of hours. Next, we begin meeting weekly for a half hour session by phone. At each meeting I will challenge you to go further than you ever thought you could. You may be thinking, "What! I can't afford the time or energy to do any of this!" I believe you can't afford not to do this. This is your opportunity to have your own professional cheering section for life. Contact me today to begin the greatest alliance you have ever experienced in success development. I look forward to working with you and celebrating the successes of your life. Shari L. Garrett phone: 703-731-3993 email: [email protected] --------------3B2BE89410D2F6FD90687D88--

    3. Turner Cemetery in Jackson Twp. is one of those places that is very difficult to tell someone how to get to, but I will try. Coming from the south on I-57 take the Edgewood exit and make a left turn, you will be going north. Stay on that road about 3 1/2 miles, at that time the road starts to curve somewhat and you will go through a creek bottom, you will also pass two small cemeteries, Not Turner, the road then makes a sharp turn to the left, but go straight ahead, the road will jog east for a short distance then north and back east, stay on that road until you come to a dead end, turn left or north follow that road to a dead end then turn left, then north you will cross a bridge, then bear right up a short road, the cemetery is at the end of the road. Good Luck! If you would like I could send you a copy of the map. All I need is your address. If you need to ask directions, ask how to get to Urban Goldsteins, they are near the cemetery. You must remember not all of our ancestors came to this country because they were happy campers in their homelands. Europe during all of it's history was in and out of wars, much the same as the world is today. You need people to fight these wars and not all people wanted to be what was lovingly referred to as "Cannon Fodder". As a result of this need every country had the draft or conscription method of obtaining their fighting men. As a result many of the families came to this country to escape the mandatory military service for their children. When they got here lets assume in 1849, the very next year they were hit with a census. They just left a country where they didn't trust the government why should they trust this new guy who couldn't even speak their language? Immediately they were suspicious of the government asking about the age of their children. So the census taker was then given the age of the sons as being something less that 10 or 11 years of age. Then in 1860 these same male children were again listed but were now only 13-15 years old, they had only aged 3 to 4 years in a 10 year period. Then in 1870 these same male children were married and finally their true age is listed as 30 plus years of age. In this manner many of them did not serve in the Civil War. During the period of the census taker riding in on his horse the sons may have been sent to a neighbors house or even to another town, just to be out of sight during the period that this government man was in the area. There were no computers nor people at the time to compare names and ages, it was a long process and I would assume that if anything other than a nose count for political purposes only, not much was done with the records other than filing them in a box. For my part the census returns are almost as inaccurate as are the tombstones in a cemetery. The census is nothing more than another source, an indicator and just because it is written doesn't make it correct or accurate. All you need to do is check the way your surnames are frequently misspelled, many of these people could neither read or write so who was to check what the guy with the "Beautiful" penmanship was writing, you can't read it today. 2. Gayle, Thanks for the info on the cemetery. Have I seen your name as a Parks researcher? If so, I am as well, descending from Andrew C. Parks nee about 1802 in Orange County, NC and I'd love to share information. I have a great-uncle, Curt Henderson that lives in Watson, and I'll ask him about the Martin Cemetery as he knows just about everything and everyone in that area. Thanks again. John S. Raschke
