    1. [ILEFFING-L] Naturalization records
    2. Eleanor Peters
    3. I have several relatives who immigrated to Effingham from Germany. I believe they would have been naturalized while living in Effingham (they later moved to Danville, IL). Does anyone know 1)Where to obtain copies of these records (saw a book listed re:Effingham naturalization records for sale by the Effingham Historical Society, anyone know if it's worthwhile?) and 2)Whether the naturalization records themselves carry any useful information in the late 1800's, or whether it's better to look for a declaration of intent). 3. Audrey is too modest. The Genealogical Society has an AWESOME department at the Helen Matthes Library......and the members who staff the department are just the best there are. There are films, and readers, too........... I spend hours and hours there every trip home. And every time I find more and more. For those of you planning on doing on-site research, I really recommend joining the society. The quarterlies are the best I've ever seen...........the information about joining is on the Effingham County website under "Reference Lookups". 3. Some of you may be subscribed to the Illinois-Roots List. There was a message sent out today that would lead you to believe that I am giving up the Effingham County GenWeb page and the Effingham County Mail List. The glut of e-mails I received tells me of your confusion. Let me set things straight. The Effingham County Mail list is "mine"......I am the administrator. The Effingham County GenWeb site is a part of the ILGenweb and thus a part of the USGenWeb, which is hosted/served by Rootsweb. I am the county coordinator and intend to remain as such. The message that was sent out by Dawn Wells relates to a parallel effort about US counties that is hosted/served by GenExchange. It is in no way affiliated with the USGenWeb. Actually, there are three parallel efforts related to US counties: USGenWeb (which I am affiliated with); GenExchange, and American Local History Network (ALHN). Let me assure you that I have no intention of giving up the ILGenWeb Effingham County page, or the Effingham County mail list. I'll continue to do the best I can for you and hope that my efforts please you and aid you in your research. I hope this answers your questions and sets the record straight.
