Dear List Members: Here is a list of all of the one room schools in Effingham County. It is as accurate as I can make it. http://www.effingham.net/kperkins/school.htm Sincerely, Kevin E. Perkins Agriculture and American History Beecher City School District #20
Does anyone have access to the index written by Lowell M. Volkel, War of 1812 bounty lands in Illinois (Thomson, III: Heritage house 1977)? Would appreciate a look-up for Thomas Levitt/Levit. I haven't been able to find the above resource so thought I would check with you. Thanks for your help, Viki

Kevin, Enjoyed your piece on the bridges and fords of Effingham County. I'm told my great grandfather, William L. Hensley, built a cabin on the edge of the Little Wabash River. Your article helped me appreciate more of what my kin had to endure in every day life. And gives me a better picture of how things were. May I include your article in my family tree notes, with credit to you, of course? M. Eleanor! I saw your posting on the Effingham page, and I, too, have a Peters relative: My grandfather's sister Martha Jane Myler, married William "Doc" Peters in 1893 in Toledo, Cumberland County, Illinois. They subsequently moved to the Battle Creek, Michigan area. They had one son, Ellis, and I'm pretty sure that his parents were Peter Peters, and Sarah Haskell Peters. Any connection? Regards, Jinny Collins (503)805-5831

Cynthia, The United Methodist Church at Beecher City is still a very active church. You could write to the Pastor (I don't have his name) at BC,62414. I'm sure he would receive it. People who live in the town get their mail at the post office so you don't need a street address. Good luck. GN gltn8 To do research on my ancestors is to show respect and veneration for them and myself.

Hi Audrey, Do you have any information regarding the Methodist Church in Liberty Township, which became Beecher City? My ggg grandfather was a Methodist minister in Liberty, I think sometime after his arrival there in 1860. His name was Arunah CLARK. He also served as Justice of the Peace. If you have any information or any leads to where I could get information about him or his ministry (church), I would appreciate it. Hi, Does anybody know if the Effingham County Clerk retains probate or guardianship documents for the decade 1835 through 1845? I did write to them and asked for a piticular probate but their response neglected to tell me if they even have these records (they sent names of researchers and stated that they didn't have time to do research) Would appreciate your help, Thanks Viki FYI: seeking probate records for Thomas Levitt died c.1845; wife Permelia Levitt died 1835-1845; both of Teutopolis, Effingham Co. They married 1833 Clay Co.IL. purchased land 1833 & 1835 in Effingham.
