I've uploaded some new queries to the county page, so you might want to go look at them. Also, I am extremely pleased at the response to putting family reunions on the calendar section. In fact, I think I am going to rename it to "Effingham County Doings"........ Please keep them coming. Remember, fall is coming and I expect there will be a lot of high school reunions coming up. Let's get them on the calendar, too. I'm working on updating the surnames, so go in and check them from time to time, too. At a suggestion from one of our listmembers, I'm enclosing a link (but you should know this by heart by now, I hope {grin})......or at least have it bookmarked...... This is great - thank you so much. I am looking for a "Meyers" a child, I don't know the age or sex, it died young at age and was retarded - that is what was told. The child is not in St. Francis with the parents. Then there are the sibling who I will list: Jacob Meyers John Meyers Mary "Mamie" Meyers-Jacobs Bernice Meyers-Reuther Catherine Meyers-Kroes Emma Meyers-Althoff Leona Meyers-Esker Clara Meyers-Artz Can I find out who their children were by the Census? And if so, they were all born late 1899 early 1900's, how old were people in that time period when they got married? Thank you so much, I really appreciate it. Forgot to mention you will probably find Caroline after 1870 in Williamson County, Milam County, or Limestone County Texas. The whole family went there. Jasper was married in Limestone but his wife was from Williamson I believe. I have to look at the document and let you know. Lee jennifer johanson wrote: > This is my family! I just found out about William and Caroline. I am awaiting something from a woman who has Eliza in her line. I know where they all went from there. You don't possibly have their information in a .ged file do you. I would really appreciate it. Do you know who the ancestors of William and Caroline were? Let me know what you need. If I have it, it is yours. Lee jennifer johanson wrote: > This is my family! This is my family! I too have been researching this line for many years. William Orr/Ore married Caroline Virginia Nixon on 1 December 1844 in Warren Co., Indiana. They then moved to Coles Co., Illinois and Clay County Illinois. I am descended from their first child Eliza, who was born in Indiana. I have information on her and on her brother, Charles but the other sibling's information is sketchy. I could never find Caroline's death record to find her parents and I lost William after the 1870 census. I'm thinking now he may have gone to Iowa to live with his son Jasper. All the rest stayed in Illinois. Please let me know if you have any info to share or if I can give you any help. I can send copies of the census records if you like. Hope to hear from you soon. I think I am looking for a William ORR and Catherine NIXON who married 1844 in Indiana. If my memory serves me correct, I think William was listed as being born in Kentucky and Caroline in Alabama. They then went to Illinois, Iowa, Illinois, and finally Texas. They had the following children: Elizabeth, born 1846 in Indiana Charles, born 1849 in Illinois John, born 1852 in Illinois JASPER, BORN October 2, 1855 in IOWA Ruth, born 1865 in Illinois A copy of Jasper Winfield ORR's (my ggrandfather) death certificate has his birth place listed as IOWA. on the death certificate. Some family said he was from Iowa but most said Illinois. This line descended from 3 brothers who came to America from Scotland. Some of this family was supposed to have been found on the Coles County, Illinois 1850 Census, Clay County Illinois 1860 census. The1870 Effingham County Illinois census is supposed to list Jasper as being born in Iowa and living with a family named WRIGHT as a farmer. His father William and sister Ruth are listed on the 1870 Effingham County Illinois census. Caroline his wife is not listed - ? may have died. In every census record after 1870 I am told that Jasper Winfield ORR lists his birth place as Illinois. My mother, his grandaughter, always said he was from Illinois. I have been unable to obtain definite proof this is my Jasper Winfield ORR's family, but I strongly suspect it is. I do not have actual copies of the census records only the information I have been told about them. One think that makes it difficult is that some of the Texas descendants of this family, named Jasper Henry ORR, his children Wesley Nevill ORR, and Elsie Mae ORR, all legally changed their surname to ORE and their obituary notices reflect that change. All others are still ORR. Any help would be gratefully appreciated. Lee -- Mailto:[email protected] http://www.familytreemaker.com/users/g/a/r/Leona--Garcia-WA/
I would like to locate someone who has a book on listings of people put to rest the Cementary of St. Anthony's. Could anyone help with this request. Thank you - Marlene (Moe) Meyers
This message is actually a HUGE thank you to the folks at St. Aloysius Parish at Bishop Creek. I was at their cemetery yesterday and they have made available at the cemetery an indexed book with all of the locations of the graves, by section. It is kept in a rural mailbox in the cemetery itself and is very easy to use. I don't know about anyone else, but when I am on one of my "tombstone hunts", I am usually in a time crunch. Being able to walk right to the grave and then search a book to see if there is someone I missed is incredibly helpful. Thanks again! Mary Westerhold
Thanks for the info.....when I say Jacob and Catherine, I am talking Meyers. Are you referring to different ones? Hi ! Any and all "Bounds" researchers will be glad to hear that the book by Ruth Dryden is again available. She first published it in 1989, and sold out very quickly. Her book has been acknowledged by all to be the BEST source of information on this pervasive family. Three Bounds cousins received her permission and encouragement to revise and update her book, so in March, they met in Florida for an intensive re-write, including those corrections/additions that were sent to Ruth after the first edition was published. There are now nearly 500 pages, and over 10,000 names in a complete index! Eleanor Poe Bounds, a familiar face at the Effingham Mathes library, has been a Bounds researcher for many years. Sharon Bounds Block and Jinny Collins, are both direct descendants of Leonard Bounds. If you have any Bounds in your family tree, you will want this beautiful book in your library. For an order form and a flyer about the book, please e-mail Jinny: [email protected]

I am very, very pleased with the information I've been receiving about reunions, etc. I've wanted to put this information on the Effingham County page for so long, but I usually got information "after" the date had passed. Thank you for submitting information to me in a timely manner. I can only see good things coming from this. Perhaps you can find some long-lost cuzzies this way! Now......to add high school reunions (other than my own), wedding anniversaries of note, etc. <eg>...... Keep those e-mails coming, folks!!!!! If you can think of any other goodies that we could add, let me know. Linda (the listmom) and Effingham County ILGenWeb Coordinator
