    3. Patti, My ggrandfather, Aaron Harrell, in his 2nd marriage, married Mary Ellen Hardsock Beck 1862 (b. 1834, OH; d. 1922, Effingham Co. IL; bur. Altamont, Effingham Co. IL, Salem Cem.) in Effingham Co., IL. In an old, old Harrell family Bible ,which I have and probably started in the family with this Aaron Harrell and his 1st wife, Cinthia Ann Kelso, there is listed a James Beck which died on Oct.21, 1882. This is probably a son from her Beck marriage, but I have no idea. Although the dates don't coincide with your James Beck, there has to be a connection. This doesn't really solve anything for your search, but it is interesting. Good luck in your search and should I uncover any pertinent info I will contact you. James married first to Maria Van Winkle, and when she died in 1852, he married Susan Hardsock on 07 Jul 1853. Susan was a niece to James' first wife. With Maria, James had the following known children: Susan b. c1844 Sarah b. c1846 Hester Elnora b. c1848 With Susan he had the following known children: William b. c1857 Mariah b. 1860 Margaret b. c1866 James died on 10 Feb 1893 and is buried in the Beck cemetery. I am interested in this man mainly because I have reason to believe (court documents filed against a man with this name) that he was the father to a son born out of wedlock in 1836 to my ancestor's daughter, Julia Ann Browning, back in Harrison Co., OH. I would therefore like to know about his children if possible, as they would be relations to the boy I speak of, Washington Browning. Also, any infor about his elder male relatives.....anyone named Washington?? Curiosity sparks my query. :) Thanks to all. Patti (Browning) Strickler Arlington TX email: [email protected]

The name rang a bell with me so I went back to my e-mail and dug your message out of my trash. If nothing else, it may give you a lead on another cemetery to look in. I noticed there was a Meyer with your Meyers, maybe connected? Also, I have German ancestors that settled in the Green Creek area, near Teutoplis. The family members would go by both their given and middle names. For example, in a census one went by S. Caroline, on her marriage license she went by Sophia C. I had no idea that my great grandmother's name wasn't Clara when I started researching this line. Her name was Mary. The excerpt from the query follows: "I am looking for any information on Joseph Meyer (Maier) who was one of the original 12 settlers that started up the St. Joseph's Island Grove Parish, Teutopolis (Effingham County), Illinois. We are celebrating our 125 year history and would like to include him in our book. He is buried at Island Grove; his wife Agnes (Agatha) is buried at Immaculate Conception Cemetery at Dieterich. Their son John and wife Margaret was the 1st couple married at Island Grove Church and are buried at Dieterich. We know they came from Germany and immgrated sometime in the 1850's ? to New York." >From: Linda Kralman-Lambert <[email protected]> >Reply-To: [email protected] >To: [email protected] >Subject: RE: [ILEFFING-L] Effingham Cementaries >Date: Sun, 25 Jun 2000 06:57:01 -0700 > >Marlene: > >You asked me to look in St. Francis Cemetery for the Meyers name only. 3. Marlene, I found this child buried in the children's section of St. Anthony Cemetery. I have no way of knowing who her parents were or if she is the one you are looking for. Frances Meyers b. 15 Apr 1889 d. 10 Apr 1891 Women usually married at an earlier age, in that time period, than they do now. If you can find them listed in a census, their children should be listed also. 3. Marlene: I don't know if this will help you at all, but I was browsing the Effingham web site and ran across the following query.
