But........<evil grin> We have a new subscriber to our list, Eleanor Bounds. She and Audry Garbe (also a member of our list) are two of the best genealogists I know. They are both very active in the Effingham County Genealogy and Historical Society and are very generous with their knowledge. I'd like to say welcome to Eleanor, and also to say "thank you" to Audrey for her past input and help. I just can't say enough good things about these two ladies, so I guess I'd better hush..... My wife's grandfather was John Bernard Koester, from Effingham county. He was married to Mary Cohorst though, so your John Koester must be a different line. John and Mary had 15 children. Their farm is still being worked by family members. Most of my wife's family is from Teutopolis, Siegel, Mattoon, Watson, and Effingham. Best regards, Terry Huff Woodcrest, Calif. If you have access to any cemetery lists in Effingham, IL., could you please see if there are any GAST's listed? I lost Elmer E. GAST after 1897 somewhere in Effingham. Due to family stories, I believe he may have died young. He had several uncles in IL at the same time he was there. Any GAST name would be of interest to me. Thanks, Nancy J. Smith

No. the book contains Cemetery list for Arborcrest (summit township) Cohee (Douglas township) Ramsey (douglas township)' St. John's Lutheran ( douglas township) **St. Mary's (douglas township) Woodlawn (teutopolis township) -------------------------------- different book is: *Sigel, IL Shelby Co., Big Springs Township Leaflet - loosepaper Raney Cemetery, Big Springs Township, Shelby Co. * sigel is near - on County border of Effingham, Shelby and Cumberland Counties. My father was raised and lived all his life in Effingham County but was buried in Sigel because that is where we attended church. ** my father was raised very near this church and cemetery where our ancestors are buried and in early 1930's -- two boys ( name withheld) were to clean the weeds and grasses out of the cemetery and tried to take a short cut and decided to burn off the weeds and grasses and start a fire that resulted in wooden tombstone markers to be burn as well. So I believe there are several unmark graves. And best to contact church for information. I do not address to this church. St. Mary Help of Christains Church, (Green Creek / Maryville) Douglas Township, Effingham Co. IL started in 1860 to present day.
