    1. [ILEFFING-L] Obituary: Elizabeth Hensley
    2. Melody Carter
    3. OBITUARY Elizabeth Hensley, wife of Wil- liam Hensley, was born December 3, 1842, and departed this life Septem- ber 24, 1906, aged 63 years, 9 months and 21 days. Her first mar- riage was to James Doyle and to them were born four children, all of whom are living. Her second mar- riage was to Wm. Hensley. To this union were born two children, both living. She was a loving mother, al- ways trying to make all happy. In her home she never tired of doing good for all, and to make home a place of joy and comfort to all who came to see and to rest with her. She was a dear and loving wife, lov- ing her husband as only a true wife can love. She always made him the object of her care and love, trying to satisfy every wish athat she knew was his. Her home was a pleasant place as far as she could make it, and best of all she was a christian. She told the writer of this that she was ready to go to that bright world of the blessed, there to live and en- joy the comfort and rest forever. Oh, that the dear husband and chil- dren will so live that they can be sure of meeting her in that land. The funderal was held at Eben- eezer church, conducted by E.E. Sherwood, of the M. E. South. His text was Numbers 23, and part of the 10th verse: "Let me die the death of the righteous, and let my last end bbe like His." There was a large number of neighbors and friends to say good-bye to her sleep- ing form. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com. 3. We had a good laugh yesterday at the library about this one. Not making fun of the submitter but seeing ourselves in the same situation. Several of us saw it, and really we saw ourselves like this, so deep in our research that we sometimes say and do things that don't quite make sense. :) :) ----- Original Message ----- From: Linda Kralman-Lambert <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, September 14, 2000 7:28 AM Subject: Re: [ILEFFING-L] Obit lookup For John W. 1. Re: [ILEFFING-L] Suggestion
    2. Ask the Genealogical and Historical Society that you will set up a agreement with them that when someone on the site wants something they will have to send you or them the Money for what it would cost if they were there getting the information for the themselves Most places will mail them the information back or you could set up a post office box and have them send you the money first and than send them the information they requested. Even if it means reimbursement for your time and expenses. It would be a lot cheaper than having to make a trip there. For myself, I have found it cheaper to pay someone than to make the trip. This way the Historical Society is getting there money. I do not know the cost in Illinois, but in Arkansas, They charge for it even including mileage. If I lived over there I definitely would help you. They would have to have a motel room while they are there if they do not have family. The cost of there gasoline, the wear and tear on the automobile Come on guys give the Lady a big hand of appreciation she is trying and if this suggestion works out it would benefit everyone. May you have many blessings from above today.

    1. [ILEFFING-L] Jenkins Family
    2. Fellow Listers........ Since I only have a couple of families who migrated to the area from Tennessee in the early days of the County (1823-1825), I'm not that active as a regular participant, but DO keep up with ALL the messages in hope I might get lucky on some info on my ancestors! My ancestor was Roderick (Roddy) Jenkins, Jr. He was born in 1787 probably in Rowan Co, NC and came to Tn with his Dad about 1798-99. He was married abt 1806-7 to Martha "Patsy" Witcher, daughter of Daniel Witcher. They had 3 children before 1810 (no names or sexes!!). 'Patsy' died in 1815 at the age of 22, but have no info on a 2nd wife for Roddy. His father, Roderick, Sr. died in 1823, and I believe this is about the time Roddy, Jr. left Tn for "points" West! A group of travellers from Tn made the trek together which included: David Parkhurst and his wife, Jane 'Jenny' Jenkins (sister of Roddy, Jr.) and Jonathan Parkhurst (brother of David) and his wife, Sarah Brockett. Sarah died abt 1844 in Effingham Co and Jonathan married Mary Powell (Sealock) on May 12, 1846. I have also learned thru a very short visit to the Effingham Co (and the help of our ListMom, Linda) that Roddy was quite a handful when he had a few drinks...... and that seemed to happen quite often!! He would get drunk and even fight with his best friends for 'entertainment'........once biting the NOSE of his opponent totally off! He was later repaid in full for this act as his nose was also bitten off!! It was stated that from that time on he wore some type of 'nose mask' or covering fashioned from leather. With ALL this said, I was not able to spend enough time at the Library to determine the names of Roddy's children, grandchildren, etc., or if he did remarry!!! CAN ANYONE HELP?????? Gary J. PS. Is it time for a ROLL CALL from this List?? (or maybe a Cal's Column to work on ------ right MELODY? LOL)
