Linda, Just a note to thank you for all you do to maintain the Effingham County GenWeb Page. I'm sure that those of us who do not maintain such a site have little understanding just how time-consuming it can be. You take all the time you need; I'm sure that everyone will be patient. I am still searching for my Bryant and Loy family information from Effingham, IL. Thanks, Rita Kay Boerner

Since I have lived here all my life, I have never heard of there being another one other than St. John's Lutheran Church that is on the S. W. corner of Center [now West Jefferson] Avenue & Cherry Street. So when I found the picture in the 50th Anniversary of Effingham Illinois book, the picture of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, where was it located at? This is what I found out: St Paul's Lutheran Church was located in the 900 block of Shelby Avenue [now 700 block] on the south side of the block. It must of taken up the whole block where houses are now. What I have not found out yet though is what happened to it? Was it like the 2 catholic churches here? In the 1900 city directory it says that St, John Lutheran church was German speaking and St. Paul's Lutheran Church was English speaking. That is how St. Anthony's Catholic church was, German speaking and Scared Heart, English speaking. So if anyone knows anymore about St. Paul's Lutheran Church, please let me know. I agree with Alton 500 percent. Linda, you do a fantastic job, and the Effingham County page is great. Please don't let anyone rush you. Just a reminder....if emails are sent out to the list, and your messages bounce 3 times for whatever reason (mailbox full, changed email address, etc.) you are AUTOMATICALLY removed from the list. I am not doing it. But...I get a copy of each and every bounce. If I know it's a good email address, I may email you directly to find out what the problem could be. A few days ago I was able to help someone whose messages were bouncing. I'd resubscribe her, and then she'd be unsubscribed again. This happened several times. When we checked further, we found that her ISP provider had installed a spam blocker without telling her. It was interpreting the mailing list messages as spam and bouncing them back to me and she wasn't getting anything. She had to go to her provider and throw a "hissy fit" to have their spam blocker disabled. If you use Norton's, there is a spam blocker included there that you can set to allow messages and not allow others. You can make the choice; it is not made for you. It is very reliable and is all you need (in my opinion). Works great for me and I'm on many Rootsweb mailing lists. Thanks for the website, Linda. Under the surnames ROEDELL and ROEDL it has _mctsect@aol.com_ (mailto:mctsect@aol.com) as my email address. It should read _fay1253@aol.com_ (mailto:fay1253@aol.com) . Thanks. Faye Orlando, Florida
That's where I told you it was. Afterwards it was a Methodist church. I am being inundated with private emails asking me to check existing items on the Effingham County Genweb page...or to add surnames that are already there with correct email addresses. If you can see that your items are correct, there is no need to email me. So...please don't email me unless there is a change/addition/deletion. I'm trying hard to catch up with all the changes and additions that need to be made. Please remember that I am a volunteer (I don't get paid for doing this). I have a family and 2 jobs. My husband and I are also caregivers for his elderly parents. I'm doing the best I can.
