    1. Re: [ILEDWARD-L] Edwards County Family
    2. Dear Diane, I just read your note about doing look-ups in the History of Edwards County books, and I am hoping that you will be kindly look up my ancestors for me. I'm researching the WOODS family of Albion, Edwards Co. Sometimes there names were just spelled WOOD on different documents, so if you could check both names, I'd greatly appreciate it. William WOODS/WOOD came to Albion from England in abt. 1819. He had his wife and son Joseph. bprm abt. 1808. I think that William also had three other sons: William, Jr. abt. 1800; George abt. 1805, and John abt 1795. They were all farmers. William, Jr. married Mary, from England. Children were Elizabeth 1839; John 1843; George 1844; Anna 1846; Edward 1848; and twins Henry and Charles 1852. George married Anna, born in England. Children were Elizabeth 1834; John 1836; Ann 1837; David 1839; Sarah 1841; George 1844; Gibson 1847; and Ellen 1849. John married Mary A., born in England. Children were Benjamin 1836; Frank 1840; Elizabeth 1842; and Mary A. 1844. Joseph married Elizabeth, from Eng. Children were Thomas 1834; William 1836; Rebecca 1841; Henry 1843; John 1845; and Martha 1847. There was a Thomas WOODS, born abt. 1824, married to Georgianna SPANGLER, who I believe was the son of George, William, or John. His children were Morris 1845; Charles 1846; and Alfred 1848. Elizabeth WOODS, George's daughter, married Atkinson TAYLOR and they had a son named Jessie, born 1858. I believe the WOODS were connected to the MICHELS and BROWN group which came from Maine to Illinois in 1817. I'm a descendant of the MICHELS and WOODS families through a marriage which occurred in the late 1800's, but I believe they knew each other back in the early years they spent in Maine. I'm giving you all these names and dates because I'm hoping that you can send me any information on these WOODS family members. There may have been another, unrelated family named WOOD or WOODS in Edwards Co., so I'm hoping this will help you recognize my WOODS family. There was also a John WOODS from England who was a merchant, born abt. 1802. His wife was Elizabeth; children were Ezra, Jessie, Lee, Frank, Julia, Elias, Prudence, and Ford. He wasn't one of the original WOODS brothers, but he may have been related. I hope I'm not sending you too much info., but I'm hoping that the History Books will have some more info. about this family. Thank you very much for your time. Beth Smith BSmith7439@aol.com
