John CLODFELTER (1780-1845) in his will, dated 17 Feb 1845 in Edwards Co., IL, says "...I give and bequeath to my nephew William A. SMOOT a certain tract or parcel of land..." How was William A. SMOOT his nephew. It would appear that William SMOOT may have been an orphan at this time. William was born ca. 1833 in North Carolina from which the German/Moravian CLODFELTER family had moved to Illinois. John CLODFELTER was married to sisters Maria Magdalena WALK (1783-1822) and then Johanna (Hannah) WALK MOCK (1772-1852). Terry Harper
