QUERY NUMBER ONE: GATES; ROTHROCK, CLODFELTER, HEDRICK, REAR, REHR: In 1817 Johanna (Hannah) ROTHROCK (1788-1867) married Stephen N. GATES (1791-1860) in North Carolina. Stephen was from Orange Co., NC and Hannah from Stokes (now Forsyth) Co., NC. They moved to Edwards County, Illinois between 1835 and 1844 and are listed in the 1850 and 1860 Edwards County censuses. They are both buried at the West Salem Moravian Church Cemetery. They were the parents of four known children: 1. Catherine GATES (1818-1856) married Philip CLODFELTER (1813-1888) in 1835 at Davidson Co., NC. After Catherine died Philip married Sophia Ann Harrison Keicher in 1856 at Edwards Co., IL. Catherine, Philip and Sophia are all buried at the West Salem Moravian Cemetery. Catherine and Philip were the parents of three children that reached maturity: Emanuel Augustine CLODFELTER (1837-1899) who married Cynthia E. HARRISON in 1856; Allen Jesse CLODFELTER (1840-1922) (nothing known) and Samuel David CLODFELTER (1846-1923) who married MARY ?. 2. Ann Elizabeth GATES (1819-???) married David HEDRICK in 1844 at Edwards County, Illinois. Nothing more known. 3. Allen GATES (1825-1864) married Sarah CLODFELTER in 1848 at Edwards County, Illinois and had a large family in Edwards County. 4. Mary Ellen GATES (1830-???) married John Henry REAR (REHR) in c1856 at Edwards County, Illinois and had large family in Edwards County, IL. There she married Francis W. EBERMAN (1822-???) from Pennsylvania. They had at least three children there and then moved to Edwards County, Illinois in c1857 and had their last child. Lauretta (and Francis?) is buried at the West Salem Moravian Church Cemetery. Their known children are: Mary (b. 1848), William (b. 1850), Martha (b. 1856) and Joseph (b.1858).
