I've been to Edgar county and looked at the birth records with no luck finding Floyd Smith there. I'm beginning to suspect that Floyd may have been born with a different surname, and then taken the name Smith when Margaret and Thomas married. I'm also suspicious that while Thomas died young, Floyd lived to be 80, while 2 brothers and two sisters died in their 30's or 40's, and none of the others made it to 70.
