At the immediate past Rennels Family Reunion in Charleston, Coles County, Illinois - we voted to sponsor a website concerning our family. The Reunion pays for it, so it is free to the members, but it is a private website and you must apply to become a member by contacting the administrator, David Kent Coy, President of the Rennels Family Reunion, at davidkentcoy@mcleodusa.net The Rennels Family is descended from John Rennels, Sr. (1781-1866) and his wife, Nancy Ewing Bland Rennels (1787-1867). They had 13 children and about 72 grandchildren and thousands of other descendants. Their children and grandchildren married into almost all the pioneer families of Hutton Township, Coles County, Illinois - so we are also interested in hearing from genealogists, historians, and people interested in the Hutton Township area. The Rennels Family supposedly traveled from Sussex County, Delaware, to Madison County, Kentucky to Lawrence County, Indiana, to Vermillion County, Indiana, before! they ended up in Hutton Township. If you are interested, please email me at the email address above and indicate your connection to the Rennels Family or specify your interest in a pioneer family of the Hutton Township area. We are NOT trying to be exclusive, but do want to protect the site from unwanted problems. Actually the more members, the more successful the site can become and more information can be shared. The name of the website is RENNELS FAMILY REUNION, powered by www.myfamily.com which can take you to a public sign-on site, which will be directed back to me as the administrator, so you can be invited to join. It's an easy to use site with the capabilities of posting photographs, drawings, GEDCOM files, text, documents, recipes, our family newsletter, Five Mile House news, and more. Please contact me if you are interested. I went to Paris yesterday. Spent half a day at the gen. library there. There was a gentleman volunteer--very nice--who helped me. I then went to the court house--pretty much in fear and trembling--HA! I've never done that before. They were so very nice. Invited me back into the vault. Wow--talk about history. I just stood there looking at spines and reading the volumes and volumes of info -- way back into the early 1800's. I found the land records I was looking for. What I found out was that the ORIGINAL deed books are at the Genealogy library. You cannot photo copy them. BUT, there are exact replicas of those books at the court house that you CAN photo copy. (If you make the copies of deed records yourself they are 50 cents a copy--the ladies helped me figure out how to unlock the bindings and use the copy machine). I was tickled to see the originals--over 150 years old--at the library. But we cou! ldn't find my ancestor there. That was because the seller was the US gov't. He got his land by patent straight from the government--I found all the listings in the land patent index at the court house. Then when I checked his name in the seller index (just to be thorough), I found he sold all the land within 2 years of the purchase date. Then I had to climb to the ceiling on this neat old ladder and lift down about a 15 lb. ledger. There they were--deed info of his sales of the land. Then the upsetting news--it wasn't the right wife. So I pondered--went ahead and copied them. When I got home and considered it--the time frame is right that this wife could have died and he remarried my 4G grandmother. I vaguely remember the fella finding a woman by that name in one of the cemetery books at the gen. lib. So I will send a query and find the date. If it fits--he may have married twice. I feel like Sherlock Holmes. Isn't family research fun! So--a great experience ! at the genealogy library and the court house in Paris--very pleasant a nd helpful employees and volunteers.

Does anyone know where Catfish Cemetery is located? I would need to have a contact person before going over there from Springfield though to locate gravesites.. I suppose I could contact the Edgar Co Genealogy Society. They tried to convince me several years ago that the James M. Cook in this family is my gggrandfather, but I've never been able to find absolute proof.

However the woman may also be Elizabeth STOGSDILL ERP both being wives of William Madison ERP. Vira died in in Pulaski County KY in 1871. Elizabeth lived in Chrisman from the mid 1870's until her death in 1921. What I am trying to do is find publications with photographs of church groups or other social gatherings from the period that Elizabeth ERP was alive in Chrisman and hopefully she will be in one so that I can confirm the identity of the woman in the picture. Any help much appreciated

In looking through Google I found: Ingram, Jacob C. Private Residence: Elwood Mustered: AUG 28, 1862 Died, Nashville, Nov. 10, 1862 Ingram, William P. Private Residence: Prairie Mustered: Aug. 28, 1862 Discharged July 14, 1863 They were in Company A, 79th Illinois Infantry. I suspect they are of my line of Ingram's but am interested if anyone has them in their line also or have investigated them trying to find your Ingram's. I believe William P. was son of Mitchel Ingram who had wife Mary Lagle. I believe Jacob C. was son of Montgomery Ingrm who had wife: Mahala (possibly also an Ingram). Looking forward to speculations. dianne ingram in oregon __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - You care about security. So do we. http://promotions.yahoo.com/new_mail

Mary E. died (divorced?) by March 26, 1879 as that is when Henry F. married Mrs. Martha E. DANIELS (Edgar Co.) I believe Henry & Mary may have lived around Logan, IL, but not positive. Are there any old cemeteries in Edgar Co. which have had tombstone readings where I might be able to find this Smith family? Are there any descendants out there? Thanks. Marsha

Obituary Bolivar Free Press, May 13, 1897 DEATH OF A. J. CANADAY: In the death of A. J. Canaday, which occurred at his home, 3 miles northeast of Halfway, May 5, 1897, Polk County loses one of its most valued citizens. He was born Dec. 25, 1822, in East Tennessee, and removed from there to Edgar County, ILL. When nine years old. He united in marriage with Nancy Ingram April 20th, 1845. He was the father of seven children, four girls and three boys, five of which survive him, viz: Jones Canaday, Mrs. M. A. Hickman and Mrs. J. M. Wilson, of Edgar County, ILL, A. Canaday, of Springfield, and Mrs. C. F. Sergent of Bolivar. His first wife died June 22, 1889, and he married Samantha L. Moreau March 14, 1893, who survives him. His main occupation was that of a farmer and stock raiser, and by industry and frugality accumulated a competence. He was diligent in business, prompt in his obligations, and though not active in public affairs was widely known and highly esteemed. These are the main facts in the life of a worthy gentleman, who was one of that large body of quiet, unassuming men, who in their day have done their duties well, in all the relations of life, and whose labors in the pioneer life have made this country what it is. Their lives deserve the passing tribute of an appreciative memorial and their labors, the fruits of which the present generation now enjoys, merit a constant acknowledgement. Funeral services were held at his residence May 6, 1897, conducted by Rev. Graves, of the M. E. Church, which was largely attended. After which the remains were laid to rest in Reed Cemetery. __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? Yahoo! Mail - Helps protect you from nasty viruses. http://promotions.yahoo.com/new_mail
