David Ormiston, Jr., farmer, Paris, IL came to Edgar Co. IL with his parents in 1844; born in Washington Co. Ohio, Nov. 24, 1830, and is the son David and Jane (Bell) Ormiston, natives of Scotland; were married in Scotland, having emigrated to America in about 1827; landed in Philadelphia; then to Washington Co. OH, being among the early settlers of this county; David Ormiston was b. Feb. 15, 1800; married twice; first wife, Jane Bell, who died in OH; then he married second wife, Eliza Pond, and with wife and family moved to Edgar Co. IL in 1844; second wife died in 1876. Mr. Ormiston is at the good old age of 78 years; he is living with his son, David Ormiston Jr. The subject of this sketch was brought up on his father’s farm. In 1862, he enlisted in Co. A, 7th Regiment Illinois Cavalry, Quartermaster Sergeant; participated in some of the prominent battles during the war – Corinth, Ft. Hudson, with General Grierson’s raid through Tennessee into Lo! uisiana, etc; Mr. Ormiston was engaged in over 50 battles and skirmishes during his enlistment, and never received, but a very slight wound; only sick 18 days; with this exception, he served full time, always ready for duty; was mustered out at Huntsville, AL.; final discharge was at Nashville, TN., at the close of the war; he returned home, and has been engaged in farming ever since. Married Miss Harriet Hall Oct. 20, 1850; she was born in Washington Co. OH, Aug. 20. 1829; daughter of Mitchell Hall b. in Ireland Feb. 15, 1795 and Frances Hall b. in Ireland, Dec. 19, 1809; have two adopted children – Emma L. and Elmer P. Mr. Ormiston is a Republican in his politics and a member of the M.E. Church.

It's believed she died around 1830 and is buried in Panola or Rusk County Texas when the family emigrated to Texas after Thomas died. Joseph P Jones ws my G.G.G. Grandfather and he received a Mexican land grant in Milam County for one league of land (4,428 acres) in 1834 at what is now known as Jones Prairie, Texas. Later he was killed by Indians in what is known as the Battle Creek Massacre in Navaro County on October 6, 1838.

There are a lot of Morris' buried in Beulah Cemetery I believe in MO. Our Sisk family was intermarried with one of Elias Morris' daughters-Hannah. She died approx. 1848-1850.
