Posted on: Edgar Co., IL Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Edgar/357 Surname: PHILLIPS, GARWOOD ------------------------- Janet, I may be way off base here, but I've been looking for info on a school of some kind in the Paris, IL area. I put a query on the Edgar board, also. I have a 1933 diary of a girl who is apparently living at some kind of school or orphanage in the area. It was written in 1933. I'd like to get it to a member of her family. I have info from the Edgar Gen. Library stating that there was an Edgar Co. Children's Home in Paris and a Palmer Academy for boys & girls. I haven't checked any further on this stuff. Did searches for the surname on the Edgar page but got no results. Last name was Phillips. Is Hancock Co. close to Edgar. Maybe I'll check around their page.

Posted on: Edgar Co., IL Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Edgar/351 Surname: Kirby ------------------------- Hello, List! I found Swango Cemetery after several tries. The best direction is to go west on Jasper Street to Jefferson Street, turn left(south)and follow Jefferson. This street becomes Preston Street after a few blocks. Follow Preston Street until you come to 1350 E Preston/450 N; turn west on 450, follow road and at the curve is an old building on the left side. On the porch is a sign that says "PARIS FIRE PROTECTION DISTRICT". The gate is to the left of the building and you cross the pasture to the wooded hill. Go up the hill and there you are. The owner of the building and pasture lives across the road up a lane. Her name is Julie/Judy Daugherty. A very nice woman. Without flagging her down we would never have found the cemetery. She was gracious enough to take us up to it. The cemetery is in excellent shape, as a few weeks ago, seven people asked permission from Ms Daugherty to go up there so they could clean it up. She was under the impression that an ancestor of one was buried there. Ms Daugherty said that she was told by family that a landslide occured at the north, I believe, end and several tombstones slide down with the earth. She says she has found pieces of tombstones down there. The family I was looking for was within 8 to 10 feet of the "edge". It was well worth the time and effort looking and finding, Swango Cemetery. A very peaceful, tranquil, spot. It is enclosed by a fence to protect it from cows. Phyllis

Hello Jeff & Angel, Would you, by any chance, be related to the EUBANK family from Covington, Kenton Co. KY. who moved to Edgar Co. ? James Moss Taylor & Mary Ann McCOY_EUBANK. James was b. 01-01-1814 - d. 12-26-1867 IL. He first married #1 Sarah DEMPSEY. I'm not sure what happened to her (she may have died in childbirth. Her son was also named James EUBANK) but James M.T. & Mary Ann were my 2gr-grandparents. They owned a farm near my ROTH 2gr-grandparents: Thomas Bradley & Esther D. GRIEST_ROTH. Not sure if it was in Brocton or Paris IL. James & Mary Ann had 12 children (Sarah's James + Mary Ann's 11) and so did Thomas & Esther. Three ROTH brothers married three EUBANK sisters: 1) Jonas Spatch ROTH m. Virginia EUBANK 2) Albert Maywood ROTH m. Louise/Louisa/Louisiana(?) EUBANK 3) Thomas J. ROTH m. Martha "Mollie" EUBANK I have a bio written by one of Jonas & Virginia's granddaughters ( http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paroth ) and it mentions when Jonas first saw Virginia. They were my gr-grandparents. Jonas & Virginia, Albert & Louisa and (Cyrus) Richard & Elizabeth all moved to Comstock, Custer Co. NE. in 1879. Richard & "Lizzie" didn't stay there. Regards, Paul Alan Roth

Jessie, The picture I have has John Nay, Mary Crafton, Sarah Nay, Hannah & Davie Barnett (my gg grandparents), Mary & Ernest Winnett (my g grandparents) and Katie & Delbert Mitchell. The picture had to have been taken after June 1925 as my great grandparents are married in the picture. I am from the Law side. I have a few questions for you concerning Sarah, like was she married before? If not, whey the Mrs., on the marriage license? What are the names of their children? What are their dates of birth, death, etc??? I am at a stand still on the Law side, I haven't made it over to Edgar Co., yet, to do any researching. Are you familiar with the Law side? I would love to share what information I have. Angel [email protected] [email protected] wrote: > Hi Angel, You have it!!
