May I ask about Rebecca's parents? I note that her maiden name was Law. I am researching the family of Benjamin Harbert Law who died in Edgar Co in 1901. He was married in 1850 to Mary Jane Bartmess. He was 33 at the time of his marriage. I have been unable to determine the names of Benjamin's parents. I know that Benjamin was allegedly born in Ohio but do not know the county. I would appreciate any assistance on the Law family of Edgar and Coles Counties. Jessie, Calif

Hi Jean......my husband is the great grandson of your Henry Morris.....his mother was Hernry's Granddaughter, her name is Thelma Morris Richards. She is still in Illinois. But she really has no clues re. his parentage. I have been corresponding with Trudy Spanier from Hawaii and she is also tracing the family. She is related though some Buffingtons who married into the family twice to a sister and one to a Henry! I forwarded your note to her. I am not currently actively working on this family but she is still finding new tidbits for them. Good luck and if you have any questions that Trudy or I could answer, I am sure we would try our best. We aren't totally sure on the parents yet, Trudy has an idea, but we have no proof yet. Barb Richards in South Carolina Henry joined the Civil War in Kansas and then after the war he settled in Iowa for a time with his wife Sara Buffington Ellison Allen Morris.....they had her sons by previous marriages and a son of their own, James Kenneth Morris, only known son of Henry. He was my husband's Grandfather. James Kennety Morris was born in Iowa and then the family moved back to Illinois and settled in Coles County near Oakland.......Sarah died in Champaign County and Henry we believe is buried near Oakland although we can't get confirmation on that yet through the cemetery.

Anyone on this list have relatives that served in the 150th Illinois Volunteer Infantry, Company "C," made up from citizens of Edgar County? Robert, in Oregon
Thank you very much for that info. I will follow your suggestion today. Jessie
This is the url for the Wabash Valley Obits index 1903-1966. I didn't think to add it to my last post. Edgar Co, IL is included, for those of you who didn't know about this resource... http://vax1.vigo.lib.in.us/~obits/index.htm
Try contacting the Vigo Co library at [email protected] This is the e-mail address for contacting them about 1903-1966 obits, but I'm sure they'd let you know what they'd charge, since they haven't indexed 1901. Since you have the date, tho, I'd think they'd do a lookup. Vigo Co, IN is right next to Edgar Co, IL....they're both considered to be in the "Wabash Valley". Good luck! > Benjamin Harbert Law died in Edgar Co Jul 28,1901. Is there a newspaper or > other source where I might find an obituary for him? > Thanks for any assistance. Jessie, Calif. > >
