The following are the policies I received for newspaper search from the IL State Historical Library, Newspaper Librarian. Mailing address is: Illinois State Historical Library Old State Capitol Springfield, IL 62701 phone: 217-785-7941 Their response..... NEWSPAPER SEARCH POLICY FOR ILLINOIS RESIDENTS Due to increased volume of requests and staffing limitations, the Historical Library has instituted the following search policy for Illinois residents. As time permits, the Library staff will attempt to fulfill requests for information from newspapers. Searching is a very time-consuming process, and delays will occur. Please be patient. Guidelines for research requests are as follows: 1. Request no more than two searches per letter. 2. Include a non-refundable payment of $1.00 to cover related copy costs. We do not recommend sending cash, but rather encourage payment by check or money order payable to the Illinois State Historical Library. 3. Do not send another request until we have responded to your first one. 4. Give specific information. Obituary requests must provide the full name and exact date and place (month, day and year as well as city/town and county) of death. Please type or print legibly. 5. If you do not have the specific information deeded for a reasonable search by our staff, you may borrow our newspapers on microfilm via interlibrary loan through your local library to do your own research. 6. If our search is unsuccessful, you will be notified of that fact. 7. Each letter of request must include a self-addressed, stamped, business-size envelope. I hope this is of help to someone on the list. Tracy Tresner [email protected] _____________________________________________________________________________________ Get more from the Web. Woody, I have a database of members of the Regular Baptist church (now called Primitive Baptist), and I think the name Redmon appears in it, and also members of the Lewis family in Wisconsin. I will be in touch with you within a few days as soon as I have time to check. I probably can't help much, but maybe something of value will turn up. Posted on: Edgar Co., IL Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Edgar/435 Surname: CURLESS ------------------------- I am looking for information on Samuel Curless, m. Elizabeth Cox. Their children were Hannah, b. 1850 in Edgar Co. IL, James (in whom I am extremely interested), Phebe, Mitilda, and Mary Jane. I would like to find out if the James mentioned above is my James Edward Curliss, b. 1851 in IL. Do any of the above names mean anything to anyone?
Helen, my gggrandmother (Elizabeth Davis) was first married to John G. Watson in Vigo Co., Ind. Something happened to John and Elizabeth married Jesse Ripple. John and Elizabeth had 4 children (I think) and Jesse and Elizabeth had at least 1 and maybe 3 children. Leanah Ripple is my ggrandmother. She was born in Illinois, most likely in Crawford Co. I find her in Sedgwick Co., Kansas with her stepbrother Joseph T. Watson in 1880 where she married my ggrandfather William Nevil who was born in Edgar Co., Illinois and went to Kansas in 1871. I have not actually tracked any relative type Watsons into Edgar Co. It appears that these Watsons came from Indiana into Illinois and I have only tracked this group, but I have seen Watsons several times in the surrounding areas. I am not sure I have seen the Watson family you are referring to in Edgar Co. but I have looked at the 1880 census and may have noted them, I will have to look at my notes. I was actually looking for Nevil Maggert and Richey families in Edgar when I went thru the 1880 Edgar Co. last time. I have not tracked John G. Watson back into Indiana yet. This probably does not help you in who you are looking for but is why I am involved in the Watson family. I am a distant half-cousin, I think. Happy TG day! Bob Nevil Washington

Posted on: Edgar Co., IL Queries Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Il/Edgar/431 Surname: Lovell ------------------------- I don't believe it is my John W. Lovell. John was born in IL and possibly in Edgar Co., IL. He moved to MO and lived quite a while in Miller Co., MO. The 1880 census shows him as 41 years old, wife Elizabeth J. and with four children. William F., 15 Susan I., 14 George W., 11 Joseph N., 6 No mention of John W. after that. I do not know who his siblings or parents were or if they moved to MO also. Joseph N. is my husbands grandfather.
Bob, I was told that my ggrandfather Leander Lock Duvall lived with the Watson family in Paris,Edgar Co. He was listed in the 1850 census. Leanders mother was Mary Welton, married to DAWelton but I don't think her lived with them. Leander must have moved to Straton because he enlisted in the Civil War from there in 1862 and must have moved back after the discharge in 1865. I really appreciate your input and wondered if the Watson family was a relative. Thanks so much for your help. Helen Roach
