    3. Dear Barry: Alice's older sister Ann Eliza Pye married my g-g-grandfather Alva McDonald on 15 November 1865. They had one son Sherman Albert McDonald born in Naperville 1867. Sometime around 1870 they moved to Butte County, California. There Alva died in 1876, Sherman died 1909 and Ann died 1910. They are all buried in Chico Cemetery, Chico, Butte County, California. Now I have a problem. Ann was 5 years older than Alice as shown on the 1850 census. It shows that Alice's name was Alice Thatcher, which makes me believe that Betsy Thatcher was married previously. If you will get a copy of Betsy and Austin's married record, it will prove that Thatcher was her last name not Shutcher. I have that, if you would like a copy. It looks as if Betsy was married previously to a Thatcher because she and Austin married in 1848. Ann was born in 1840 and Alice was born in 1845. I have been trying to find out Betsy's Thatcher husband. My Ann was married to Patrick Reilly (Riley) and I believe he died in the Civil War. I have ordered his military records from the National Archives, but have not received them as yet. They had 3 daughters. I don't have their names at hand right now, but will send them to you. I don't know if they went to California with Alva, Ann and Sherman McDonald when they left Dupage County. It looks as if our Betsy Thatcher Pye is our g-g-g-grandmother, but I doubt that Austin Pye is our g-g-g-grandfather. By the 1850 census, and by Ann's birthdate, and the marriage record, he is no kin to either of us. If you would like, please keep in touch cousin. My e-mail address is dldewitt@xtalwind.net .
