Hi everyone, After I posted about the DuPage book, I was reminded that Nathan Bateman had also done county histories. (I knew that, I'd just forgotten. Oops.) Of course, not having actually seen the book I need, & having so many family names in my head to keep track of, & the fact that Blanchard & Bateman both start with "B"...... well, it seems I got them crossed up. Mea culpa. I wasn't aware of the date of Mr. Blanchard's death. (He's not in my family tree. That I know of. Yet. <g>) I have looked at the 1882 Blanchard book, & tho it's got some very helpful info in it it's not the one that has the particular (& sometimes more lengthy) bios that I'm after. It's apparently the 1913 Bateman book that I'm needing. To everyone who suggested various book sites.... I've spent hours on every search engine available, including the auction sites. The reprints of the 1877 & 1882 books are the only ones I've seen, & I've already gotten those thru interlibrary loan. My post to the list was due to my failure to find the book anyplace else. I do believe I have a lead on it now. Good thing we're making a trip "up north" in a few days - it's apparently the only way I'll get to check on it. (I may have to mortgage the house to feed the copy machine....... <g>) Thanks to everyone who replied! For one thing, Rufus Blanchard died in 1904. From looking through three very significant catalogs, it appears that the 1882 edition is the only one which exists, and that the index is to this 1882 edition. There was a collection of Illinois county histories published in 1913. There is a chapter on DuPage Co., but it doesn't appear to me that Blanchard wrote it. What is the nature of your evidence that an edition published well after Blanchard's death exists? >>
