    3. Have you looked at the list of IRAD holdings? I know Cook County listed that they had Guardianship records, and I was able to get copies from 1884 when my Great Great Grandmother died and left 6 dependent children..... Pattie

    2. Shirley, I'm glad to hear about the color copier at Mail Boxes Etc. I went to mine to try it but they were out of toner. When I went back the next day, they were still out of toner! I had tried the color copier on sepia toned pictures at Kinkos and didn't like them, but will give MBE a try for the color photos. Thanks for the information and happy holidays, Adrianne

    3. I have found an alternative to the Kodak Photo machine. My MailBoxes, etc., place recommended that I make color copies of my black and white pictures. I was a little reluctant to spend that much money (2.50 for 11x17, as opposed to 7 cents b&W copier), but I did a few. We crammed as many as we could on the 11x17 and they were wonderful! This is a color laser copier. They were almost better than the original, fine detail, etc. I would recommend trying it to see if you like the results. 3. Dear Listers; I have been collecting family photos for the last two years. Usually when I've made contact with a long lost relative, I'll eventually ask them if they have any pictures of 'Uncle ...... or Aunt ......'. I've had very good luck, and usually the individual will entrust me or my sister with the pictures long enough to scan them. Now, I have access to many printers where I work, but have never been happy with the quality of the pictures when I try to print them out on either the photo paper or other high quality paper. I think with newer pictures it works better, but since these pictures are any where from 50 to 100 years old, they just never come out 'right'. So, what I did was go to Walgreens and look into their picture machine. Armed with a diskette with a couple of pictures save in 'jpg' format I was able to get prints that were as good or better than the originals. One was a family picture, quite small of about 19 people. The clarity was amazing, and at $6.99 a sheet, quite reasonable. A sheet can be 1 8x10, 2 5/7, so on and so forth. I printed 8 to sheet and they still are large enough that you can see the people's faces quite well. I just wanted to share this with all the lists. You may already have discovered this, but just in case, I thought you might need some last minute Christmas ideas. Plus I hear Martha Stewart dedicated one Christmas tree last night to family pictures! As for me, my Uncle Newt is getting a framed picture of himself, and various family members for Christmas. It was taken in 1918, and I think he will be pleasantly surprised! I would like to find someone who lives in Wheaton who would be able to go to the Society's museum and pickup the copy and mail it to me. I will reimburse them for all expenses involved. 2. I talked to my Mom and just like I thought. She said it was called The Three Pines. It was right on the corner of York Road and George Street. Right when you turn left onto George Street off of York Road - it was right there on the left. She said she thinks they also served food there - kind of like a little restaurant. She and my Dad went there once. She said she thinks she had to go down there one time and pull my Dad out of there. He was drinking and watching TV with a family friend. I wonder if the name is changed or if the building is even still there at all. Anybody on the list who lives in DuPage county know? Barry Jernigan

    2. Thanks for responding Jim. But from what I remember there were people drinking and smoking and sitting around talking in the kitchen and living room area of this place. I don't think that's acceptable behaviour for a museum ;-) Not any that I've been in anyway. Maybe it was somebody's house and I just don't remember it correctly - since I was only 5 years old when we went there. Thanks anyway Barry Jernigan

    2. Thanks for the advice Susan :) But I live in TN now. I haven't been back to DuPage County since we moved from there after my parent's divorce in 1969. I don't think my parents even went to that bar when we lived there. I'll have to ask my Mom. But I could swear that it was on the corner of our street (George Street) and a main highway. Maybe I forgot all the details. I saw that 3 J's in the Yahoo Yellow Pages and that might be the place after all. Barry Jernigan

From the Ameritech online yellow pages there are only two bars in Bensenville and one is: 3 J'S TAVERN 206 W Green St Bensenville, IL 60106 (630) 766-9769 According to my map program to get to your old house from the bar you would go east 0.2 miles on Green, turn south on South York Road then go 9 tenths of a mile to George Street. If you still live in Wood Dale it is only about 5 miles from your house, go have a beer. :o) I can't help with the rest. - ------------------------------------------------------------------ My Personal Page http://people.ce.mediaone.net/susantort/ The Illinois USGenWeb Project http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilgenweb Shelby County ILGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~ilshelb2/shelby.htm Barry County MOGenWeb http://www.rootsweb.com/~mobarry/barry.htm Share your knowledge, it is a way to achieve immortality

    2. We lived on George Street in Bensenville when I was about 5 (1965). When I was about 7 we moved to Wood Dale - Forest Preserve Drive. I am wondering if anyone on this list who is still in the area can help me. Right before we turned to go to our house on George Street there was I think a bar. There was a sign with 3 pine trees on it. I think it was called "The Three Pines". This place is embedded in my memory and I am wondering if it is still there and what it is called - who the proprietors are. Maybe they might send me a picture of this place or if someone knows where I can get one? Also my dad worked at a place called J B Clow. I don't remember what he did there. Does it still exist and would they have employee records from that time? Ditto for Mars Candy Company. He worked there after Clow. Is that still there? One more thing - I remember an outing to a place. I don't know the name of the place. For some reason it has a military feel to it. There is a long driveway - kind of like a boulevard. Along the sides the shoulders sloped up. Very white gravel was laid there. Here and there in among the gravel were planted little shrubs. At the end of this long driveway was a big white house. The lawn was well kept and very green. I am thinking it was some kind of club house? There is a large garage under the house on one side with room for quite a few vehicles. The ceiling in the parking area was very low. Up the stairs and inside was a small narrow kitchen area which led to a small dining area by a window. It looked like somebody's house but I don't think it was. I was about 5 when we went there. We lived in Bensenville so I am thinking it must be in that area. It's bugging me that I can't remember this place. I want to put all this info in my personal genealogy file along with old school records, military records, etc that I am collecting. Thanks Barry Jernigan DuPage County names: Baker, Hampton, Pye
