Pat, Thank you for doing the North Central page. I am a 1961 graduate of North Central (the centennial year). I was born and raised in Downers Grove and commuted for three of the four years. The last year I was married and lived in the seminary housing. This may just bore everyone to death. I've accumulated a good bit of information on the history of North Central College (in Naperville, originally North-Western College) and have expanded my one page to a site of its own. I'll be chipping away for a long time, but if anyone has any connections to the college and is interested, here's the new infant site: http://patsabin.com/NorthCentral/ Pat
Mildred, thank you so much for the look-up on Colford. Herbert Colford lived in West Chicago (Turner's Junction) as did all of the Careys. Carey is a surname. I have a neat picture of Herb Colford with two Carey cousins. They served in France. Were there any Schulte or Karstens? They would be from Wheaton. Thank you again for trying. Nina
I am looking for the following surnames in DuPage County: BEARDSLEY (CT, VT, OH, MI, IL) (1860's) Price, Nancy Rossetti, Hannah (Griffith) ROGERS (NY, VT, NY, IL) (1860's) Samuel, Henry Phillip, Edward, Walter, Orillia (Perry) REYNOLDS (NH, VT, IL) (1830's) Isaac, Mehitable P. (Sargent), Richard S. S., Charles R. L. SARGENT (NH, IL) (1830's) Richard Sanborn GRAVES (VT, NY, IL) (1830's) Phineas, Jesse, Amos, Juliette, Anna (Kendall) POLLARD (MA, VT, IL) (1860's) Jonathan F., Jeremiah F., Jane E. (Roach) Most of these folks lived in Warrenville, but a few were in Downers Grove. If any of these names and places ring any bells, I'd love to hear from you! Meg Shearer
I'm sorry but there was no one by the name of Colford who served in WW 1 from Wheaton. When you mentioned Carey, did you mean the city of Cary, Illinois? If he was from Cary, he would not be in this book. This was a very narrow book in scope, with just those from Wheaton who served. Wish I could help. Mildred mallek@pensys.com

My grandfather was a volunteer in WWI. He was Richard Colford and served others from the area such as Carey. Let me know if there is anything. THANKS! NINA

Hi Jack: I will keep your info and let you know if I find anymore. BTW, I DID receive my permanent report card from the school district. All I did was write to the address that I found in Yahoo Yellow Pages. You might try that for your school as well - that is if you don't have any records at all. My situation is that the records indicate that I was absent for 36 days in Kindergarten and I don't see how that is possible. I may be reading the records wrong but I wanted to make sure somebody wasn't taking me out of school without my parents' permission. It's so long ago I can't really remember for certain. Barry Jernigan
Barry, If you get any replies about the school records, I would like to know this answer also. My records, however, are way back in the 1950s, Hillcrest Elementary School. Mildred- Thanks for offering the lookup. Do you have any GRIM/GRIMM's in the book? Just my 2 cents on this. I have been trying to work on this puzzle myself. Looking at maps and trying different combinations of letters, etc. I am now wondering if maybe this is a postal configuration of an abbreviation...SAG, IAG, LAG, etc and the number "One" as in a route #. ...a former resident (age 5 - age 8 /1965-1968/ Tioga School, Green Street School, Oak Street School) of DuPage Co. And BTW does anyone know where the school records finally end up for DuPage County schools? Trying to track mine down - and not just the permanent report card but all of my school records (particularly attendance records) if they still exist that is. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks Barry Jernigan
Dear Pat, Dust excused. I have a yearbook. I'm not willing to give it to you, but if anybody has any interest, I will do lookups for them. It is the "1963 Procopian", from St. Procopius College Academy in Lisle, Illinois. Nobody hates this more than I do, but I'm having to move DuPage Co American Local History Network again. The new server of two weeks is just too difficult to access, and I've been unable to upload changes and additions for days at a time. Soooooo...here it is- the *final* home of DuPage ALHN- http://patsabin.com/dupage/ It will take a couple of days for me to get all the links fixed, so excuse the dust! My latest acquisitions are the History of North Central College, pub 1960, and a college yearbook of 1930. That one hasn't arrived yet, but I understand that it has local business advertisements. I'm planning to scan and upload some. If anyone has anything to contribute, please let me know! Pat Sabin
Florence, You asked about what looked like a town name of Lagane. I have a copy of a page from a Patrons Directory found at the Wheaton Library listing Addison Twp. patrons. In it, my g-grandfather is listed and it shows the Post Office as Sagone. As near as I can tell, he was living in Itasca at the time. Hope this helps, Anne
LaGrange is in Cook County, but Addison is in DuPage County. So I don't think LaGrange could have been part of Addison Township, even in 1870. Those lines between Cook and DuPage Counties have always been just as they are now. Addison Township is in Addison, Illinois, and the Township office is on Addison Road. Zip is 60101. I don't know the exact address, but it should get there if you say North Addison Road. By the way, guess whose office is in the Addison Township building? None other than our local hero, the Honorable Henry Hyde! Mildred in Lake Geneva, WI mallek@pensys.com
Garland, Is LaGrange in Cook Co? Would it be possible, that LaGrange was the post office address for that part of Addison township?
