In 1973, my father got a legal notice regarding land in Cook County being sold for back taxes. Dad didn't know anything about the property. His lawyer said "it's a Chicago scam, just ignore it". (Downstate attitude, sorry!!) Luckily, dad saved the papers & I just came across them. I now recognize some of the names as being connected to my family. And it seems that whoever came up with the list wrote down just about everybody who even *might* have had a connection to the property, clear back into the mid-1800's. (Lawyers covering all the bases, probably.) I know there are people listed who had passed away long before the 1970's. The property was located at: "Approximately one-half mile west of East River Road at the east bank of the DesPlaines River on the north side of Higgins Road in Park Ridge". The PIN is 12-03-201-001. I did a search with the PIN, but it seems to be one set of numbers short for "modern" times, so I don't know just what tract of land was in dispute. From the written description it seems to now be part of the Forest Preserve - maybe the Boy Scout camp area? Many names are included in the printed notice that looks like it might have been intended for publication in a newspaper. Attached to the actual legal notice is a list of people that paperwork had been sent to. This was definitely outdated since my grandfather was on that list & he had died in 1953! The following names & the towns they supposedly lived in are from the "mail to" list. All are in Illinois unless they're in parenthesis. After those I've included the other surnames not on the mail list. Maybe some of you will spot a familiar name. (And does anybody else remember getting this notice??) Hi Anne I think I have written to just about every church in Addison township and no luck. I found confirmation and marriage records for the children of Mathias and Maria Niklaus but no record of death or burial for these two. Hello Listers, Could SKS who has access to the 1920 DuPage Census do a look-up for me? I'm trying to locate the family of Ruby SHERMAN born circa 1915 in DuPage County. The assumption is that she may have be born in the Hinsdale area. I have tried to contact the "Doings" Newspaper in Hinsdale to see if they can check the BMD annoucements thru about 1940 but their server appears to be down. Any other ideas?? Florence, I haven't tried to find records of deaths through funeral homes, but have used church records. I have one ancestor who died in DuPage in 1869 and his death is recorded in the church records. If you know what church they attended, you might find information that way. Good luck, Anne

Florence, The DuPage County Genealogical Society has published micro fiche on cemetery and church funeral records for: York Township Addison Township Downers Grove & Lisle Township Try them. John H. Stoddard

Any one know what funeral homes would have been in charge of funerals in Addison township during the 1860-1870's and did they keep records that far back. Where would such records be archived. I can't find a death record for my ancestors, so I was wondering if I went this route if I could maybe find them that way. Has anyone tried finding funeral records that far back.
