    3. Hello, I also somehow missed the beginning of this, and I am wondering if the kind soul named Jeri with the index would be so good as to look and see if there are any BADKA family members listed? I do appreciate your graciousness in helping others out like this. Thank you, Jack << does the naturalization index show the following: >>

Probably distantly related. Actually there was another Sabin in Naperville at the same time (quite a shock to me!), but then, there were a lot of New Englanders migrating at that time to Illinois. As far as I know there are only two groups of Sabins in the US. The early Sabins came from England and settled in Rehoboth, MA in the 1630s. All of us are descended from William Sabin, so we are all related. Of course, from there they moved all over New England and then many migrated west. I think we were the first Sabins in the south <G>. In 1960, when we moved to Atlanta, we were the only ones in the phone book. I've never met another Sabin face to face! The other Sabins are Jewish and may be of the same descent as Dr. Albert Sabin who invented the oral polio vaccine. I believe he was of Russian-Jewish heritage, and I assume the name was derived from something else. There are a few Jewish Sabins in Atlanta, including a Patricia A. Sabin. Her husband picked up my vacation photographs at Eckerds once, and I'm sure she was surprised! The other day I got a call from Kroger that I had left my wallet in the store, and it was hers. One day I'll have to introduce myself to my alter-ego! Sorry, list, for going off on this tangent! Pat Sabin

No, but coincidently I dated a guy in college named Ellis and he also was Greek (from Tennessee). It had been shortened in his father or grandfather's generation. Maybe they're related somehow. My Ellis family migrated from Massachusetts, through Vermont, NY and to Summit County, Ohio around 1810. All the surviving children who had offspring were girls, as were every one of my N IL families - lots of surnames (all of them common as dirt). They moved to Naperville, and then to surrounding counties and towns, in the early 1840s. My Albert S. Sabin married Sarah Ellis in Bath Ohio in 1852, but the strange thing is that the Sabins had been in Naperville since 1833. I can only figure that the Sabin and Ellis families met in NY and remained friends all that time. Pat S > > Mildred in Lake Geneva, Wi

We're all sort of silent on this list, but if anyone *ever* claims any relationship to my Sabin or Ellis families, you'll hear me whooping and hollering all the way from Georgia! I did make a contact with a long lost Cunningham descendant (or the wife of) recently, but she's in a nursing home. I hope she'll get some "live and kicking" family member to write down some details before she dies. :-( Her husband was descended from two early ministers of the Congregational church of Naperville, Rev. Jonathon Porter and Rev. John Whitfield Cunningham. My great-grandmother lived with the family while attending Northwestern College. Sort of a special connection. Pat S.

    3. The Bill Bauer I was thinking of was from Wheaton, and wrote a sports column in the Daily Journal. The William Bauer I spoke of, was and still is, I think, Judge William Bauer of the Federal Court, I believe. He was from DuPage County, but may have been from Elmhurst. I descend from the Sebastian, Valentine BAUER lineage and I do have a "grand-uncle" William. However, I've never been able to make contact with anyone other than Val's side of the Family. I know there was another BAUER family living in the "up-scale" part of town but, to the best of our knowledge, they were not related. I know his uncle is still living and that Jim borrowed the cards to scan. Jim used to be on this list, but I guess is no longer?... Some very good friends just brought me back a stack of things from Naperville, including postcards and a poster of Lester Schrader's paintings of early 20th century Naperville. They are so charming! I sure wish I could upload those to share, but most of them were painted after the 1920s, and I'm sure the NaperSettlement owns copyright. However, my friends also took some random pictures, so I'll definitely get those uploaded when they're developed! One of these days I'll get up there and take my own pictures...and find my ancestors' graves...and tour the old architecture of Chicago...and... :-) Pat (in Atlanta GA) http://patsabin.com/dupage/ > > Mildred in Lake Geneva, Wi
